Garmin eTrex Legend HCx

Premium Review Garmin eTrex Legend HCx (353 words)

Rating:

This is a tough, well designed and compact handheld gps device. Personally I use this for mountain biking, with the GB Topographic map, and find that it accomplishes what I need it to do very well and is extremely accurate. It has a microSD slot which is great, I have a 2gb card and you can easily fit the whole of the GB topo map onto it. Ok so the road routing may not be great but I did not even consider using it in the car when I ordered it. However it does a perfectly acceptable job of navigating for me, although It does lack features of a dedicated sat nav. It is waterproof so ideal for outdoor use, this is especially handy on the bike. It doesn't float but I don't intend on riding ...

Premium Review Great Entry level GPS (281 words)

I bought an eTrex about 14 months ago primarily to help me GeoCaching (which is a hobby finding hidden items often in remote or countryside locations around the country). My main use for the eTrex was to use the built in GPS. This model is the cheapest in the range but has a lot of functions that can be useful. I found the GPS pretty good, it normally picks up the signal within 20-30 seconds in clear weather, and it can get a little slower in cloudy condition or under tree cover. The accuracy of the reading in my experience is also very good; I can normally pinpoint locations to within 1-2ft without any problems. It has a nifty little feature to save up to 50 ...

Garmin eTrex Legend C

Premium Review Don't get lost without it! (414 words)

I bought the eTrex Legend C as an upgrade to a Garmin Emap. The unit is smaller, has a colour screen, and seems to go on longer on a set of AA batteries. Uploads now happen over USB, which can also be used to power the unit, and this is a very welcome addition, particularly as many modern laptops don t even have a regular serial port, only USB. The memory capacity of the Legend C is fixed, and it is only 24Mb, and this is one of the main downsides to this unit. It hasn t got enough capacity to store the metroguide map for the whole of the UK, which means that you have to load the device with the regions you ll be travelling in, rather that just putting mapping for the ...
