I bought this Sat Nav on the advice of the sales representative, who told me that Garmin Sat Navs are much faster at receiving a satellite signal and determining your location than other popular brands. Having used other brands, I think he may be right. But it seems that this is not the only thing to make this product an excellent choice. Whilst using a friend's Sat Nav, I noticed, for instance, that it would tell you verbally which exit to take at a roundabout, but it did not display the exit number on the screen, only a constantly moving picture of it. However, the Nuvi 255T displays this information in writing until you have left the roundabout, which I find extremely beneficial, particularly as I prefer to drive with the sound turned off and just glance at the screen when necessary. When I bought this Sat Nav, there was the option of having a widescreen version, but I opted for the standard one as it was smaller and easier to carry around. I'm quite glad that I did as the standard screen size is more than adequate and very easy to see. I really like the night view feature, which changes the screen colours automatically around the time that it gets dark to make it even easier to look at. There are some great features on the Nuvi 255T, including the facility to switch to pedestrian (or cyclist) directions, and EcoRoute, which provides you with details of how economically you are driving and helps you to save money. There is also the lifetime traffic alert subscription in the UK. Although I have yet to use this feature extensively, I did find on one occasion that I had reached a traffic jam on a motorway and not been notified beforehand. That said, I think it was a relatively new jam, so I can't be too critical! There are some useful little extras such as a built-in calculator and unit converter. As with most sat navs, it allows you to store a list of your favourite locations and search for points of interest, such as banks and restaurants. The dashboard/windscreen mount provided is very easy to use and allows you to position the screen precisely where you want it. Again, certain brands of sat nav come with quite irritating mounting brackets that do not make for quick, simple insertion and removal of the screen itself. So far, this sat nav has not led me on any wild goose chases - unlike others before it! However, it is probably advisable to keep it updated as often as possible. I really can't see any need to pay any more for satellite navigation as this does the job superbly.
