Magellan loses its way! (Magellan Maestro 4010)
Member Name: Chris
Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: Extremely inaccurate route planning and post code database Bought it on Thursday - returned it on Tuesday. Inaccurate postcode database and flawed logic made this GPS more of a liability than a help. Poor recalculation of rerouting - persisted in telling me to do an 'authorised u-turn' for six miles before accepting my route was quicker. Out of curiosity I followed its instructions for the quickest route from Harrogate to my home in Nidderdale - I was guided round two sides of a triangle and a route 50% longer in time and distance. Despite it being priced at only £99.99 at Sainsburys it would cost more to run each year because of the extra mileage! Apart from these basic faults, its selection logic is poor and slow. The only good thing I can say about it is that the female voice is much more pleasant than the usual trans-Atlantic whine on most GPSs - my advice is don't touch this GPS even at what seems a bargain price. Summary: Waste of money. |
