Advantages: Good features

Disadvantages: Small

The s30 is an entry level satnav with a slightly cramped 3.5in display.

The other two new models in the s series, the s50 and the s70, both boast larger screens.

At the top right is an indicator showing how many more miles you will be staying on the same road, along with its name.

The centre of the screen shows the street that you are on and your progress along it, while the roads you pass are displayed in a subdued grey with thinner lines.

The big story with the latest navman range is supposed to be the 3d representation of instantly recognisable buildings. That said, if I couldn't recognise the real life big ben, I doubt a large cartoon image would have helped much.

The s30 3d makes a valiant attempt to distinguish itself as a local travel guide rather than a navigation tool, but I wonder whether its business-search features are more suited to the larger models.

Summary: A good satnav for an average person.
