      Advantages

      Disadvantages

If you need to find your way without speeding tickets then its faultless

The snooper syrius is a compact, yet fully featured sattelite navigation / speed camera detector capable of both getting you where your going and keeping your licence safe whilst doing so.

Information and mapping is provided via a very clear 4 inch widescreen colour LCD and via voice prompts (available in male & female voices in various languages).

Although the mapping is available in western european version, I chose the UK & Ireland model as I never travel abroad so this was the cheapest option. I also got lucky as there was an offer available for lifetime camera update subscriptions, which are downloaded to the sat nav with a USB cable supplied. The software is very easy to use and guides you through the update process.

Navigation is easy from either a street name or a post code and you can scroll the map yourself on screen and select the destination on the screen.

Its a very stylish, easy to use unit, my only fault being that the speed camera alerts can be rather annoying, although they are much less annoying than a 3point & £60 ticket. The camera alerts are switchable and you can store your own alert points if neccesary.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Very good, but would be better had Snooper put some camera detection in with the option to upgrade.

It was my son's birhday and I wanted to get him something useful, so because he travels a lot with his job I decided to buy him one of those 'sat nav' gadgets. Knowing nothing about them, I thought it would be prudent to do some research on the subject, anyway, after asking around the shops (not a good idea, shop assistants trying to push latest offers) I looked on the internet and found that 'Which Magazine' had recomended the 'Snooper Syrius Plus S600' saying all good stuff about; ease of use, design, size, camera/blackspot detection etc. It was more than I had expected to pay £200, but it sounded good, so I bought it.

I gave it to my son, who assured me he was happy with it (obviously, he'd forgotten to let his face know!) He has used it nearly every day since - about 3 weeks - he says it's really good, it's easy to set up, it gives clear instructions, the screen is a good size and the bluetooth is great for hooking up with your mobile, so all good there then, well not entirely!

As you can see the only things my son has told me about are the to do with the navigating side of it, there is no mention of the speed camera detection; and here lies the crux, there is NO speed camera detection, if you want that you have to pay either; a one off payment of £99.95 or £4.95 a month, minimum 12 month contract first 6 months free.

This is not what I had expected I had shelled out two hundred pounds for, what I thought was an all singing, all dancing piece of technology, only to find that it could only sing, well, what good is singing with no dancing? It's like swimming with no water, it should not be allowed!

I have checked on some other 'sat nav' makers 'Tom Tom, Road Angel etc' and most of them have some form of detection built in so (if you want more you can upgrade) so I am disappointed with, what, in every other respect, is a really good system, Snooper have really let me down, coughing up an extra £99.95, is not something I had bargained for!

(Had occasion to use this in my car, it was great, got me to York and back no trouble, but still not happy about the camera detection or lack of there of!)
