Advantages: Sleek and clear instructions
Disadvantages: Poor postcode search and battery life
This was my first Sat Nav and decided to go for the Sony at the time. I soon discovered shortly after buying that Sony haven't mastered the Sat Nav market as well as other brands.
Firstly you can only search using 5 postcode digits. You then have to search through several locations if your postcode doesn't appear which can be frustrating and time consuming.
I owned the Nav-U50 for 3 years before selling it and during that time Sony only released 1 map update, which is very poor compared with rivals who release at least 1 per year.
Battery life isn't the best and usually lasts under 4 hours with continual use.
On the plus side the unit has a nice female voice, which is soothing on the ears, and instructions are very clearly spoken. There are several pre-installed points of interest which came in handy on a few occasions.
If you are on the lookout for a good Sat Nav I wouldn't recommend this model, as there are much better ones available.
Summary: Better Sat Navs available for a lot less
