Advantages: easy navigation

Disadvantages: Derby a bit of a black spot, gets confused over slip roads

We inherited our tom-tom when my partners father passed away, and have found it indispensable ever since. Although we still quite often rely on taking a map with us everywhere we go

Saying this, they do have some faults. And as the recent statistic of three hundred thousand accidents a year caused by satellite navigation systems does prove.

One niggle is that when you are on a motorway, and it splits into two roads, the tom tom won't tell you what road you should be on - leaving you to guess. We have made detours of a few hundred miles on a couple of occasions due to this fault. The tom tom also doesn't let you know you've taken the wrong road, just plans a new route that could be quite a lot longer than turning round at the next point possible and starting again.

You should use these with caution, as their confusion very frequently causes accidents
