Advantages: user friendly, compact and attractive

Disadvantages: a little slow at times

I bought the TomTomOne as an emergency purchase. I was lost in London (I live in Birmingham) and the Satnav i had with me ran out of juice. I hadn't prepared well by fully charging it before leaving the house and hadn't packed my cigarette lighter charger! Asking for directions or buying a map would have been useless (i am a woman) So i literally just went to the nearest large supermarket and went for the TomTom purely because of its reputation for reliability, and having used it now for a while would liken it to the nokia of mobile phones. They are basic, easy to navigate, and everyone knows how to use one!
I certainly got lucky with my spur of the moment choice, as it ticks all of the boxes which suit my needs.
My old satnav was white and bulky, its performance wasnt an issue but even the holder was an eye-sore and did not suit the style of my car at all. TomTom is small, portable, light, takes up little space and although simple, looks attractive.
The layout of the screen is easy to read and digest, which makes alot of difference in my opinion. It doesn't confuse you with too much information for the brain to process in a small amount of time! Yet it gives useful information such as the names of the roads you are passing, local amenities that might be of interest such as petrol stations, resteraunts, or others which can all be customised. It shows on screen your speed, the speed limit you are in, the current time and the estimated time of arrival. And all in a digestable format.
The settings and menus are clear and easy to navigate through, and you can customise your journey to suit how you would like to travel, avoid specific roads, toll roads, or calculates the fastest or shortest journey.
On the down side, sometimes it is a little slow to load if you switch it off at a different point to when you switch it back on, and it can be irritating at large roundabouts. I think the car may sometimes be faster than the GPS signal so you end up having to go around the roundabout a few times before you know which is your turning!
All of that aside, well done TomTomOne, you have impressed me.
:)

Summary: All you'll ever need as a navigation system in an easy-to-read format
