Advantages: Does exactly what its meant to

Disadvantages: Small moan about the battery life

My last car had built in sat nav and it was really old and dated and very often it steered me wrong. To get it updated was a hassel and expensive. When i got a new car it had no sat nav built in and as i cover half of Scotland i really needed one. My company were good enough to buy one for me. After six weeks of moaning from me.

I looked at loads and listned to alot of advice, i went for TomTom as it came over as the market leader. Everyone i spoke to seemed to rate Tom Tom very highly. I only had a budget of around £130 and i managed to get this one last year from Halfords for about £120.

Its great and really simple to use its all touch screen and sometimes with touch screen the letters can be to small but TomTom have is about right. Its also very compact in size 4.5" x 4", so it doesnt distract you to much when its on the windscreen and your trying to concentrate on the road.

It has loads of differnt settings so you can set it to warn you about things like exeeding a certain speed, schools, safety cameras. And it has a large amount of sounds and effects that you can set up for differnt warnings. Some very annoying. You also have a coice of about 8 differnt voices both male and female to choose from. If you want to you can even buy new voices for it including Mr T and John Cleese. They cost around £5.00. I've never done this yet and tend to stick to the boring ones already on it.

It has a very small screen but they seem to make it bright and its very easy to follow. The audio description is good as well it gives you plenty of warning for turn offs etc. A friend of mine had a Garmin and when i was in the car with him i always felt that some of the warnings came to late for my liking.

It has a postcode finder and a nice little feature that tells you where you are.

It even stores favourite destinations to save you constantly reprogramming.
It also stores previous destinations that you can look back and scroll through to pick up somewhere you've been before.

In the past year its only taken me the wrong road twice. Its a clever bit of kit, it gets me to my appointments on time. It doesnt always take the fastes route and even though it may take a bit longer it gets you where you need to be. Also if you dont take the exact road it suggests it just recalculates the route to keep you on the right road. It comes loaded with UK maps and you can buy other maps for mainland Europe etc. It also has safety cameras pre loaded in it which are handy. To get these updated you need to pay extra.

The only downside is the battery doesnt last to long when fully charged maybe an hour and a half, but you get an in car charger with it.

All in all i think this is brilliant and i wouldnt be without it.

Summary: TomTom One gets me where i need to be
