Advantages: Does just what it says on the tin!

Disadvantages: Has to be paid for.

I shall write this review as a regular user of the TomTom, I realise there are a number of reports on this bit of kit, but as a fan, I just want to not only defend it, but also add my own criticism.

I would like to tell anyone considering buying one of these, you will be struggling to get a better one, although you can get cheaper. The TomTom is a doddle to set up & operate, and much has been written on this subject. My view is that the basic instructions and pictograms are ample, so anyone can use it.
You can go for either typing in the address, or postcode, both get you where you want to be, you also have the choice of avoiding toll roads, or choosing the shortest or quickest route.

The mounting, while very secure, is a bit obvious for my liking, and I'm sure these are an easy target for thieves. In my car, I have made a little bracket, below the instruments, easy for me to see, but not the passer-by. When I leave a vehicle, I just pop the unit into my pocket, it is small enough.
I also use the TomTom in trucks, and find the battery life is ample, considering you can leave it charging all the time, except perhaps when you need to use the cigarette lighter socket for a mobile

Now for the carrying case, it's made especially for the job - fine - BUT, there's no room for all the mounting bracket & leads, So, I use an old cine camera case, just the job.

As mine gets used in artics, I sometimes get caught out by low bridges, apparently there is software out there which gives bridge heights, although I have yet to see any. Likewise, TomTom tells me to go down roads which have weight limits, luckily as I go past these roads,my trusty TomTom simply re-routes me, without me having to do a thing.

Memory card supplied is 128 mb, ample for the software included, but the version on mine is now out of date, and I have downloaded the new version (free) it won't fit on my card, a bigger card is just ten pounds though, and this leaves enough memory to include extras, voices, safety cameras etc.

I've now bought a 256 mb SD card, which cost me just £4.25. I needed to format it, & then loaded the new version onto it. I still have a bit of memory left for more voices or speed cameras etc.
I have had no real problems using this piece of kit, apart from the odd time when I find the road has been re-routed, and the software has not been updated, but this is where the TomTom comes into it's own, it simply picks up the next road & directs you accordingly.

I have delibrately avoided telling you how the thing works, this has been covered and to be honest, it is so simple you just do it.
These TomToms can be bought for as little as £189, so I can only describe the price as a bargain.

Mine is used in wagons and taken some abuse, they are built to last. Go & get one, you won't regret it. I can highly recommend these.
Thanks.

Summary: Brilliant,
