Advantages: Aux inputs
Disadvantages: Slow, Cost, TV feature
My computer had this graphics card installed when I first bought it. I was pleased to hear that it fetured a TV reciever. I thought GREAT! a TV on my computer! I unpacked all of my computer boxes and I found a round purple box with a great chunk on wire protruding from it. I thought "What the hell is this thing?" Anyways I read the documentation and discovered it was the "POD" for the Voodoo3 3500 graphics card. The pod allows users to connect their card to thier hi-fi and television. The posd also features "line in" for digital cameras and other input devices. I plugged everything in and I immediately clicked the TV icon on my desktop and.....erm..... snow! I plugged my free standing TV aerial and I recieved a poor picture which didn't improve with the on-screen tuning. I eventually had to plug my Cable box into my PC. The picture was good but not very crisp as I expected it to be. A feature on the TV is meant to be a multi-channel view, where the user can view all channels simultaneously. This DOES NOT work. "Ok time to play some games" I thought. I had some pretty poor games bundled with my PC which were not very demanding on the graphics card - They ran fine. I eventually purchased a 3D game - Midtown Madness 2. I installed the game and began to play. I though the graphics were great! until I went to my friends house. He was running the game on a card which cost half the price (TNT2 ULTRA) and it was twice as fast even with the settings cranked up full. I was a very dissapointed with this card even though I was happy with the game previously. I tested the card with other games and they were poor compared to the TNT2 Ultra. I sold my card and purchased a TNT2 Ultra which has gave me no problems whatsoever even with the most recent 3D demanding games. Stay clear of this card Nvidia will ALWAYS be one step ahead of 3DFX. Go for the TNT2 Ultra (without TV) at half the pr
ice.

monk13i - 17/04/02 A bit of info about the hardware setup of your computer would have been useful so judgements could be made about the performance. If for example you have low system ram and the new graphics card had more ram on board that the voodoo3 this would results in better performance. I think you were a tad harsh. I had a voodoo 3 before I traded up for my radeon 8500 ( a large chunk out of my wallent ) and although it was the bottleneck in my computer ( 1200MHz, 512 ram ) I was never dissatisfied with the purchase. Did you try downloading the newest drivers. That can sometimes make a good difference |
