BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 ... bought this graphics card the day after it was launched, and I must say, it was rather pricey. £380, over half of what my ENTIRE PC build cost me. But the main question, was it worth it? Well at the times, YES, it most certainly was. This could could play anything that was out (assuming the rest of your rig is up to scratch), and even had Direct X 10. The key here is that I wrote that paragraph in the past tense. What was once amazing is now almost redundant. For starters, you can now get more powerful cards cheaper than this (8800GT), which is also smaller (This card was hard to fit in a large PC case, and took up 2 PCI slots), and has a lower power consumption. Club-3D 8800GTS ... you want a DirectX10 compatible video card and fantastic performance, the Club 3D 8800GTS 320MB is the piece of kit for you. DirectX10: Direct X 10 is Microsoft s latest in the Direct X series. It s worth noting that to use Direct X 10 you must own Windows Vista and obviously a Direct X 10 capable video card. What Direct X 10 actually means for games is that they simply look better. For the moment I don t think that Direct X 10 is a major selling point, just a nice thing to have, as there are few games that support it and performance when Direct X 10 mode is enabled is greatly decreased. EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTS ... you are looking for a new PC to use with Windows XP or Windows Vista and you want the latest graphics technology you would be advised to get a graphics card that supports DX10. DX10 is a new technology improvement from DX9 that should give better and more realistic graphics. If you want to play computer games in the future, I would suggest a 8800GTS is probably the minimum graphics card to go for. At around £250 they don t come cheap. However it s a bargain compared to the better GTX models that costs around £100 more. Even more scary is the Ultra model, £400 plus.
