      Look Elsewhere

In terms of pure performance, set your sights higher than the Riva TNT2. Buying a powerful graphics card is usually the preserve of games-players to whom I would have difficulty recommending this card given the other options available. That said, for less intensive computer users the TNT2 is a good choice as it is low cost yet reliable.
The standard test of pure graphics power comes down to frame rates - the more frames your graphics setup can draw per second, the more fluid your picture is and the better the gaming experience. The graphics card works in conjunction with your processor to draw complicated bjects and assist in reducing these frame-rates. The bad news is that many other cards do this far better than the Riva TNT2.

Take the 3D first-person perspective game Deus Ex, for example. At anything above 800x600 resolution on medium texture detail my Riva TNT2 card struggles, even though the card itself has 32Mb of onboard memory and in my computer it ispushed along by a fairly powerful 700Mhz Pentium III. The same is true of Quake III Arena. Anything above 16-bit colour in 800x600 becomes unplayably jerky.
I can't even recommend this as a cheap card for gamers on a tight budget - the cracking ATi Radeon 32Mb DDR performs far more impressive feats with the same amount of memory for slightly over £100 (see www.dabs.com for latest prices).

To its' credit, the card is very easy to install and set up. The latest reference drivers avilable from www.creative.com do help improve game performance to a limited extent, but unfortunately they are not compatible with Windows ME. However, I would hold the failings of the Microsoft OS responsible for that issue (see forthcoming opinion).
The Riva TNT2 Model 64 chipset has been around for some time but it has now been throroughly superceded by a more potent wave of graphics accelerators.

I got this card built into my PC when I bought it. At the time, the Geforce was still in the works and this card was pretty much THE card to own. It comes with 32 Mb of Graphics RAM, which by today's standards is still pretty good! This card has handled everything that I have thrown at it (except DVD playback -We'll go into that later). All the new games look pristine with this card - Black and White, Unreal Tournament, Quake 3 - all run perfect! With 3D applications, the card has handled the real-time rendering of fairly complex objects - using direct X shaders/ sometimes Open Gl. What else can be said to praise this card??! Oh yes - the resolutions it can handle are way beyond what any home-user would need! The biggest draw back of this card is its not-so-good DVD playback. The card does not display a crisp quality image on screen. I'm not too sure why this happens, but it just does! I think that it wasnt specially developed for such use, so that could be one reason.. Anyway -you should be watching DVDs off a Television with a DVD player..... The monitor hurts my eyes! So to conclude, this card handles all the usual needs - games and graphics. If thats all you require, get the card - if you want peak performance, then I'd suggest you spend a lot more money and get the new Geforce card! This card will last you maybe a year down the line - then you'll have to replace it..... It really depends on your needs i guess. Get it if you only play older games.

The TNT2 Blaster Riva is a revolutionary graphics card! I bought one a month ago and was thoroughly impressed. It has great texture mapping and the interpolation changes are superb. I really enjoy playing Counterstrike (Half-Life) so this was definetly the gaming card for me! If you like to do Graphical manipulation then this probably isn't the card for you. Desktop publishing is much better on a 2/3D based card like the GeForce3 or ATI Radeon. But, nevertheless, you can enjoy crisp clear output with this card. One of the best for games on the market. Have fun! -alexb

OK I had an ATI Rage 8 meg and it was obvios that if I wanted to carry on playing games I wiuld need to upgrade my card. I restricted myself to a limit of £150 and I did some research over the internet. The TNT2 supports all of the major drivers that you would want, and can run with, open GL, Direct 3D, etc.. The card can support 32 bit texture and can support a resoution of up to 1900 * 1200. The card doesn't have TV output which doesn't bother me, but it may concern others. It accelarates games brilliantly and i would reccomend to anyone and what more could you ask for £80?

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

I have had this graphics card for over 6 months now and it is one cool piece of Hardware. The drivers I use are the Nvida 3-84 available from http://www.reactorcritical.com/ they are very stable but not the fastest out there. The card itself is very small, the fan is very quiet and it was easy to install and setup. Supporting 32bit colour and some awesome gfx capabilities this is a must for any serious gamer who can`t afford one of the new range of graphics products. The card supports AGp 1. AGP 2 ports I have it running on a P2 300 AGP2 196mb and the machine is as fast. If you shop around you can get one of these cards very cheap

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

When I eventually found a TNT Ultra based card it was at a computer fair, the cards had disapeared for ages and I saw one for £85 but only with Nvidia reference drivers. At the time I had a K6-2 machine and a Savage 4 video card. When I installed the card I noticed a slight improvement in games fps but not as much as I thought. I thought I had wasted my money on this card untill I bought an Athlon processor, this seemed to let the card do its job properly and the frame rates went well above double what I had before. There is no doubt that this card had the ability to do well, but I think Nvidia used the same tactic with this as AMD did with the K-6 III. They took it out of the market because it was eating into the profits of there new up to date models. If you can find one though they are probably alot cheaper now because they are no longer produced, so if you cant afford the geforce, the TNT2 Ultra is only a slight compramise and possibly a big saving on your pocket

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Recently I need a new GFX card to replace the one which I had purchase a while back for a seocnd PC. The original card was the savage 4 which performed well when it worked but was dogged with support issues. I decided that the chipset for me was the nVidia TNT2 chipset. I've had a good history with creative labs products and so decided to buy a graphics blaster card to match my SB-Live! and surround speakers. This was oe of the best purchases and experiences I've had with GFX cards. The installation was a breeze and further setup, config and tweaking went without a single problem. Performance of this card is one a par with just about any other TNT2 chipset-based card. So I'd say go with the flow and go 3D big stylee.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

I am currently running a Creative Riva TNT 2 Ultra on my system and would recommend it to everybody and anybody...If you could still get the card. I have trawelled through every computer reseller in the UK (okay I'm exaggerating, but not by much) and unless it stuck in the dusty corner of some of the PC World which dot the Great British countryside, you just can't get this card anymore, you can find plenty of it's handicapped little brothers called the M64's which retail for about £70 but these just don't hold a candle to the original TNT2 Ultra chipset. Creative (and indeed' Nivdia) want you to buy the shiny new Geforces (Pro and the GTS) for much more money than the TNT 2 Ultra or a lot less on the budget, bargain basement TNT2 Ultra M64's. The TNT2 Ultra was the thorn in the side of Nvidia as it wasn't cheap enough to produce to be a bargain buy for the budget gamer and it was comparable in price to the GeForce 246, so how to solve this dilemma ? The answer is simple, pull the card, hamper the chip, make it cheaper to produce and then chuck it out the door for the budget gamer...Shame really, it's a great card.

I bought this card 3 months ago and I can stil run games at top resolution at around 1600 x 1280. The quality of graphics are amazing and games run soo smoothly. The card is easy to install and drivers for the card are widely avaialble all over the net. The settings tabs are easy to understand and the card is easily configured. It is very compatible and I think this card is a MUST for all gamers. I get over 30 frames per second in all the games I play and they all run smoothly, especially demanding games like Unreal Tournament and I find this card one of the best on the market.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

I bought this video card as a very due upgrade from a voodoo 2. I knew that I wanted a tnt II based card as they have received nothing but praise - and this card more than lives up to expectations. I have found it to be quick and top quality visually. When i first installed it the new depth of colour on my monitor was instantly noticeable. It has coped admirably with any games that i have thrown at it - including quake III and unreal tournament to name but 2. I have had no problem with creatives drivers and I have had no incompatibility problems - the boards drivers can also be downloaded in linux format if needed. I have since purchased a geforce based card - but this card still holds its own, even against such a quailty and expensive competitor. Well worth buying. Especially for the cost.

              Disadvantages

I needed to buy a new grpahics card so I look through some magazines and decided on the TNT 2 Ultra Gamer. Deciding on a Graphics card is not an easy thing nowadays. Depending on what you want to do with it games, office use. Chosing a card was not easy I went for the tnt2 riva ultra gamer. Brilliant 32 bit colour, with fast frame rates stable drivers (detonator 3.84) games run like a dream. There is some slowdown mainly because of the spec of my machine. The price was a bargin at a £100 and it will last till something better comes alone. The graphics card specs Display Modes: 640 * 480 800 * 600 1024 * 768 On most monitors 19inch and above supporting resolutions of up to 2048 * 1563 wow This card will suit anyone. So you can go on the site to see it for yourself on http://www.creavtivelabs.com Advantages: Brilliant graphics in D3d, Open Gl Disadvantages: Slow in d3d in the high resolutions (because I need a New Processor)
