Advantages: Fast, Cheap, Great Chip

Disadvantages: Creative Drivers.

I have had this graphics card for 2 years now and I trust it to bits! Creative aren’t really graphics card people but they sure did an excellent job on this card. This card is not "out of date" at all. Don’t be fooled that the more memory you have on a graphics card the better it is, ok ok 4mb is not enough but 32MB is way too much!! 16 MB is fine and this graphics card uses it best. If you have an old graphics card and are looking for a cheap new one then this is the one!!
It has 16MB of memory which is fine for todays and tomorrows software. Games like this graphics card as it is good at using DirectX and Direct3D!
I have to tell you that if you do decide to get this graphics card then install the NVidia Detonator Drivers, Creative are very bad at these graphics drivers, I only have Creative Nvidia Graphics cards in all 5 of my machines so I should know!
The Nvidia Chip is really something, unfortunately I can’t tell you how good it is as I need diagrams to explain further but its fast and reliable.

There are some fantastic websites out there devoted to the Riva TNT as it is a truly excellent Graphics cards!!
www.riva128.com
www.rivaextreme.com
planetriva.com

and hundreds more!!

The price of this graphics card is amazing if you don’t buy it from a major retailer such as Dixons, try and buy it from Special Reserve and if they are expensive then buy from me (not second hand, new!!) as a last resort.

Good opinion.

I really respect your allegence towards The Riva TNT, and understand it. I have built several machines, and live and die by Voodoo-based cards.

The only experience I have had in the past with Creative cards was the first Creative Blaster, around the same time as the Voodoo 1 in 1996. That particular card did'nt deliver the quality of the Voodoo, but that was with Glide, openGL and Quake (which was the flavor at the time). I have to admit, The Creative card did display Toshinden very well, especially the cameo character Earth Worm Jim. Though there was no per-pixel effects of any worth compared to the Orchid Righteous 3D or the other dedicated (3d only) cards.

So how good are the new Creative cards at the first person shooters? And what games really ecel with these cards.

Oh, and you can get the Creative cards at much better rates in certain mail order shops and faires rather than Dixons and Special Reserve - I really can't believe that someone with your experience would be recommending these two retailers in particular. Their prices are awfully high, with no apparent advantage for the extra dosh.
