Advantages: Cheap, Smooth Gaming
Disadvantages: there is now a better card
Well, before you start reading, I had a crappy 8M video card before. So the descriptions of the difference between my 8M video card and the GeForce 2 MX may sound exaggerated. I was looking for a new video card so I bought this one. It was cheap, and had the well-known Nvidia name on it. The best thing about this card is the price vs. quality. This is a CHEAP video card but it's good quality. It has the Geforce 2 MX chipset. Now, you might think that since it's a cheap video card, that means it's not that good. Well, you're wrong. For a 3D accelerator card, this is cheap. Compared to the Geforce 3, which is much faster, it costs about 500 dollars (on the american internet site). Most people buy 3d accelerator cards to play games. So anyways, I took it home to install. Since I have some computer background, installing the card was easy for me. But if you don't, it comes with a manual. Anyways, you open up your computer and locate your video card. Unscrew the old video card, and pull it out STRAIGHT, not sideways. Then just put that new video card in, and screw it back on. It comes with a CD with the drivers, but you can also download newer drivers off the internet. Once I installed the drivers etc, I played some games. I noticed a MAJOR difference in the quality of game, and performance. The graphics were A LOT better, they weren't blocky, they were smooth. I jumped from a 15 fps (frames per second) with my old video card to 120 fps, which means smoother gameplay. There aren't any games that can't support Geforce 2 so you can play ANY game on the market now. This card does support openGL too. I usually set my resolution to 800x600 but I started to experiment with resolutions with the new card. I could go up to 1024x768 without any problems. When I set it higher than that, it didn't look very stable. When I wasn't playing a game, I didn't notice too much difference. But when I was watc
hing movies on my computer, it lagged a little without my Geforce 2. So, if you're upgrading from an old video card, but have a low budget, I recommend this card. It can provide you with a new 3D card to support newer games and offers the quality from the Nvidia name.
