The Savage 4 chipset has been pushed hard by Diamond particularly since S3 and Diamond merged, with S3 making the Savage 4 chipset it is obvious that they would stick with this. Diamond have released 2 cards with the Savage 4 chipset, the Diamond Stealth III S540 (the card i'm reviewing now) and the Diamond Stealth III S540 Xtreme. The difference being that the standard S540 was using the Savage 4 chipset and the Xtreme uses the Savage 4 Pro+ chipset which is significantly quicker. I recently got me mittens on this card, and i was excited about using it.The specs make you think ooooooooooooooo sexy card, 32mb, 4x agp..wow! So i zoomed home from collage and ripped open my computer, took out me trusty 4mb ATI rage pro and eagerly slotted the card in. All looked well at first..butttt first, the initial drivers werent that good and the game i was testing it out on (quake3) didnt work properly, some graphics were missing. I then found a recent magazine cover cd and updated the drivers.This sorted out the problem and i was very pleased with the results. 1024x768 and 32bit colour and all graphics at the highest setting, and the game ran like a dream! ...
