Matrox Millenium G200:
... G200 may be a little old now, but still has its uses. For example, as part of a hobby of mine, some of the best programs I still want to be able to use run in Msdos, and sometimes do not work on modern computers. After experimenting with different computers and research on the internet I found the operating system to be irrelevant, and it was actually the graphics card that stopped the program working. Matrox Millennium G450 ... The dual-monitor-support is extremely usefull >> one step closer to the real paper-less office. It works fine with 2d-applications. It is completely useless with Alias-Wavefront-products, such as Studiotools and Maya. It slows down ANY movement on the screen to ULTRA-slow-motion. It is impossible to work with it productively at all. Whos fault is this? Alias Wavefront's or Matrox's? Neither of them offers a 'work-around' for this capital problem. It should not happen at all! I wasted £85 on it, because of this. It is very usefull, as I wrote before, for office and 2d-applications, but too expensive, for that purpose >> other 32MB... Matrox Millennium G400 ... you go out and purchase a graphics card you should ponder over what your gonna use it for.. I bought this graphics card about 6 months ago on ebay for just over £40 and have been extremely happy with its performance. While the matrox G400 is not a dedicated card for gamers - who should probably be more at home buying a Geforce card - it is an excellent product for professionals who like the idea of combining the quality of a 32mb graphics card with the ability to run their system on multiple monitors. Dual Head You may wonder why you would ever need 2 monitors, but if you run complicated audio software like cubase or graphics packages like photoshop you probabl... Matrox Millennium G400 Max ... seem a little outdated with this card, I still recommend it as a good all purpose 3D and 2D card. The card may lack speed, but it sure packs a punch when it comes to features, especially considering its age. As cheep as a Riva TNT2, its only marginally slower, but boasts the possibility to run two monitors side by side to extend your desktop. The software and driver support from Matrox is top notch. Bump mapping is for me however the cards greatest feature. Images created using Environment Bump mapping are unrivalled, and as its hardware bump mapping, it takes it in its stride. Overall, the G400 is a competent card. Although lacking in GPU sp... Read the full review: Matrox Millenium G400, lots of features, slower 3D performance. by rabw |
