Advantages: Nice and cheap, Exccellent graphics quality and speed
Disadvantages: Slightly out of date technology
I`ve had one of these cards for a while, and am still completely made up with its performance running games. I`ve got a fast PC in every other respect - Athlon 2500+ overclocked to 3200+, a gig of DDR RAM and so on, but even with this, my Ti4200 graphics card still helps games to fly along. I`m a big fan of Command and Conquer - Generals, and this needs a nice fast PC with a good graphics card to play well. The Ti4200 more than does the job! It runs the game at the highest resolution with all the detail turned right up to the maximum settings, and still runs like a dream. The card itself is simple to install - you just plug it in and go. You can either use the drivers that come with the card, or you can download the latest drivers from NVidia (who make the Ti4200 graphics chipset), whichever you want. Once you`ve done this you can just load up your games and away you go! The market has moved on a long way since this card was first made, but that doesn`t mean the card is no good. if anything, because it is older technology, it means that you`ll be able to buy one nice and cheaply, saving a few quid to maybe upgrade the memory in your machine. The graphics quality from the card is excellent - clean, crisp and the frame rates are more than acceptable for anything I`ve ever wanted to do with my machine. If you want the very latest and greatest graphics technology then you`ll have to look elsewhere, but if you want a nice relatively cheap card that flies through games then you couldn`t do much better than getting yourself a Ti4200 based card like this one.

- 25/02/04 Ahhh, bless Bea :-) Anyway, you never play PC games. You use my XBox and GC (and incidentally, i`ve just ordered myself a PS2 as well :-) 0 |

- 24/02/04 lol - 'flabbergasted' at the comment I left :)
I know it was lengthy, but I can touch-type so I often don't realise quite how much I have actually written!
As for my comments, I simply pointed out quite how much information was left out. Not only that, but some of the information given was potentially misleading.
I did point out that it was a good review, but I am supposed to be becoming the Computers guide soon, so I have a responsibility to point out shortcomings.
As it stands, dooyoo is a product review site for people looking to buy something - there are much better, newer alternatives to this card on offer. I was simply trying to stop people wasting there money on something that is already out of date :)
Don't get me wrong, the Ti4200 is an excellent card, and was reknowned for its phenomenal price/performance ratio - a year ago.
Take care,
Dave. |
