Advantages: Great graphics

Disadvantages: none

There is a distinct lack of reviews on graphics cards, so I thought, having recently changed mine that I would write one.

I purchased the ATI Sapphire Atlantis 9600 256MB DDR to replace my G Force 4 MX 440 128MB DDR.

How much does it cost?

I bought this graphics card from scan.co.uk for £67 + vat (11.73) + Carriage (£7) a total of £85.73. Most places are still charging over the £100 mark, so I was thrilled to get this at such a bargain price.

What is it like?

What a difference! There has been a noticeable difference in screen rate, and the quality of the picture is incredible. Pictures load onto the system more quickly, graphics are smoother and quicker, and even web pages seem to load more rapidly. Watching my husband play on Delta Force, it struck me how realistic the graphics are.

It appears to be stable, and hasn't yet fallen over (and I've had it since March).

What do you get for your money?

In the box, you will find:

1 x Sapphire RADEON 9600 Graphics card
1 x Enhanced Win 9x/Win ME/Win 2000/Win XP Driver CD
1 x Cable
1 x connector

It doesn't come with any installation instructions, but if required, details can be gained from the sapphire website.

Now for some Technical stuff!

OK, the Technical stuff I have taken from the box, and is as follows:

System requirements –

Intel Pentium 4 / III / II / Celeron, AMD K6/Duron/Athlon/Athlon XP or compatible with AGP 4X (1.5V), 8X (0.8V) or Universal AGP 3.0 bus configuration (4X/8X)
128MB of system memory
Installation software requires CD-Rom drive, DVD Playback requires DVD Drive

Graphics Controller –

ATI RADEON 9600 Visual Processing Unit (VPU)

Operating Systems –

Windows 2000, Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows XP.

Monitor Support -

15-pin VGA connector
S-video/composite connector
DVI connector (DVI version only)

It has independent resolutions and refresh rates for any 2 connected displays.

Would you recommend this product?

This is definitely a product for gamers, and if you are not using your PC for games, you would probably be better off spending a little bit extra, and going for the 9800. We play a lot of games on the PC, and this is better than I could have imagined.

There haven’t been any previous reviews to research, so I hope this covers all the points you need to know. If not, please leave me a message, and I will add any info required.

Thanks
