Sapphire Vapor-X HD 5870
Advantages: Hugely capable card, renders any games you throw at it at full spec
Disadvantages: Not the cheapest
This card is literally a beast! It can render anything you throw at it, with 8xx AA and 16 AS filtering at full 1080 HD. The output is beautiful and it hasn't failed to play any game on full spec at 1680x1050 yet! I dual screen through the DVI normally and the picture is wonderful. It streams HD films with no bother. Just in case you're doubting my word on its power, I literally installed Crysis and Crysis 2 as soon as I bought this and it played it full everything at 1080 HD no sweat. Recently, it's played Assassins Creed 2, Splinter Cell Conviction and more on full settings without dropping below 30fps and I have been a very happy chappy.
In my tower it idles at 45oC (I have 7 low rpm fans and good flow) and it reaches 60oC at full load which is still REALLY cool. My fan runs at 12% idle and gets up to ~30% at load but still inaudible. I really wish I could fault this card in some way because it sounds like I'm trying to sell one, but I really could not be happier.
£320 is a lot of money to spend on a graphics card and I did "um" and "ahh" for a long time, feeling bad and guitly etc but it is well worth it. I have never regretted the purchase and it's future proof! I bought mine in Dec for £320 and there's still nothing to rival it, nvidia is folding in this deptartment and I don't see it getting any cheaper! If you have the space in your case (check the dimensions as its a monster) and the free wattage (2xPCI-e) then seriously go for it, you won't be happier than with a 5870.
There are 2x HDMI outputs for people who want to run into an HD TV or 2x DVI for monitor. The build is strong, the card durable and it secures into place very easily and nicely. I haven't been able to try the eyefinity yet but am told it's cool.
I has been really enjoyable and truly liberating to simply be able to whack up the settings on any and every game and know that it will run - you feel like you're properly getting your monies worth from each game. If you're thinking of buying a new card and have the funds to dispense, you can't go wrong with this!
Summary: Enormous bang for your buck, if you have the money, but it without hesitation!
