Reliable midrange card depends on the price.

I recently purchased this card for a very reasonable price. While not new compared to the current generation of cards, it is still powerful for its price. In the current Nvidia line-up this card beats the 8600gt and 9500gt and will keep up with a 8600gts. The card its self is an average size. Bigger than the previously mentioned cards but not as large as the recent GTX2XX series.
It requires an external power cable, 6pin and an adapter is included if your power-supply does not include it.
The Fan is made of aluminium and is low profile, but gets quite noisy when doing 3d work, such as gaming.
XFX also provides an excellent to year warranty in the UK when you register on their website. It took me 2 minutes to sign up.
The box also includes a DVI to VGA adapter for older monitors and an SLI bridge to connect two in your pc.
This card will pay older games at very reasonable resolutions, but newer (Crysis etc) will have to have low settings.
On a side note I would recommend an after-market heatsink/fan that will keep it cooler and quieter. A similar set-up on my card with an 'Arctic Cooler Silencer' allowed my to over-clock the card 20%+ and still kept it quite - but your mileage may vary and this does void your warranty....
Overall good card if you can get it cheaper than the 8600gts and are a 'Casual gamer' without a 24" monitor.
