Advantages: Tones well. Refreshes. Cools.
Disadvantages: Expensive. Astringent.
I saw a bottle of Guerlain Aqua Toning Lotion in my local chemist which was reduced from £28.00 to just £17.00 - and that seemed like a bargain too good to miss. I have used Guerlain products in the past and I have been generally impressed by the quality of these products, but I do have to admit that I have not seen the Guerlain Aqua Toning Lotion before - and when I asked for it recently in Boots they did not have it in stock and so I'm not sure whether this is something which they still make as a matter of routine. I have seen it in some random stores online for around £30, but it doesn't seem to be that readily available.
I always cleanse and moisturize (usually using Clarins products) but I rarely tone - but as I'm getting older I'm starting to think that this is something I should be doing now so that I don't get saggy (I'm not far off of the big 4-0). I would certainly not pay £28 for a toner, but as it was significantly reduced to £17.00 this seemed like a far more reasonable price to pay. There is 200ml in the bottle and so it's a decent size bottle and a little goes a long way - and I found that one bottle lasts me about six weeks or so......which isn't bad. The bottle looks classy like the rest of Guerlain products and is that classic pale blue and gold that is so typical of Guerlain. There is no pump or anything to release the toner and it's just a matter of tipping the bottle up to pour out the amount of toner you want - which I actually prefer because I feel I have more control over how much I use and therefore there is less waste.
In order to use, I tip a small amount of the toner onto a cotton wool pad and then gently wipe over my face in an upward circular motion. The aroma is very refreshing being slightly sweet but certainly not over perfumed. It's cool on my skin and therefore is refreshing and makes my skin feel alive. I do feel that there is a slight astringent quality to the toner, but again I have found that this tends to be true of most toners (although I was hoping this would be less so as it supposedly hydrates as well as tones). I did feel like I definitely had to moisturise after using this toner, but once I had moisturised my face felt nicely hydrated. I also found that this toner did not have that horrible sticky feeling that some toners leave on your face. I do believe that using this product did contribute to my skin looking and feeling fresher and just in better overall condition.
Overall, I would recommend this product if you can pick it up for under £20 - I don't think I would pay more than this. It seems like a good toner.
Summary: Recommended if you can pick it up for under £20.
