Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand
by ste87 I have owned a couple of stands of this type over the years as well as other designs. This particular stand costs between £10 and £20 depending on where and when you get it, I had it thrown in for free with a guitar. This particular design is as simple as it gets it folds out from a single hinge to form a triangle supported by the top ... which blocks the legs from extending further than it should. This creates a sturdy little stand which any idiot could use. The guitar itself sits on a bent metal arm which is shaped similar to the bottom of your guitar. Then the body rests on the top mentioned earlier a little further up, this creates quite a stable stand, however I can imagine bigger electrics would have trouble sitting due to the body size. The stand is made of a light weight metal, most likely aluminium which is painted black. The top and arms of the stand are coated in black rubber which matches the black paint and provides enough friction to stop slippage. When folded the stand is tiny and can be tucked away into a corner when not in use. The rubber used can scuff the shine on your guitar if you roughly throw your guitar down. This can be avoided by using common sense and treating your stuff with a bit of care. Cheaper stands are available but much worse materials are used which could quite severely damage your guitars paint job. This model is a good trade off between quality and cost. I chose this style as it is cheap, portable and doesn't involve me drilling a hole in a wall. The Read the complete review |

Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand
by SoadFan ~ Better than Custer's last stand its a Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand~ *************************************************** One thing that I have noticed over the years is that with the arrival of a new stringed instrument such as a guitar in the home, you inevitably end up needing some where safe and secure to store it. ... When it comes to storing your axe there are a number of options that can help, some of which suit those lucky enough to have larger areas of floor space on which to stand cases or stands and some of which are very useful in smaller spaces, as they can be wall hung to maximize space. The Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand that is just one of a number of stands that we have and it has been used constantly to stand an electric guitar on for some time. The beauty of going for some thing like the Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand is that it is compact and portable, which means that should you need to move it about you can do so with very little effort. There are a number of different styles of guitar stand that you can buy and when comparing this one with others I have, I feel that whilst this does work well the supporting arms on the stand do limit the body style of guitar that can be slipped onto the stand to a certain degree. As an example a slimmer bodied guitar can sit well on this stand due to the shaped and tilted support arms, which make for a secure angled base with a slightly clawed effect which holds a slimmer guitar body with ease. To place a wider bodied guitar in a stand like this one does mean that it may not sit so well on it if at all, as the angled supports do tilt down at quite a steep angle then swiftly turn back up leaving a smaller base area on which to seat your guitar. With some of our other stands the support arms are less sharply angled and have a softer angle to them with a wider area left between the front and back of the support arms, making them suitable for both electric and electro acoustic guitars as well as some wide bodied acoustics. As we bought the Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand shown to seat an electric guitar with a slim to medium sized body to it is does work well enough but really wouldn't larger bodied guitars much at all. ~Set up and use~ ************** To set up the Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand all you need to do is get the height and width of the stands legs right. This is easy to do as the stand has a simple push in pull out style of movement which means all you need to do is push the small button at the top of the stand in so that you can adjust how far apart the legs of the stand are from each other. Once that is set up the spring loaded lock pin on the Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand will keep it in the desired position so that it holds your guitar securely in place. I have found that as long as you don't sling your guitar back onto the stand in a hurry leaving the guitar at a dodgy off centre angle it will stay safely cradled in place. If a guitar is not placed onto the stand in an almost upright well centered position there is a slight risk that it will be more easily knocked out of the stand although in my experience the worst that has ever happened has been that the guitars I have in stands can knock either each other or the wall a little if I don't put them back correctly. This perhaps won't be as much of an issue if you are going to have just one guitar on a Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand, with no other guitars or objects close by that you may need access to. As I have a number of guitars and other instruments that are all close to each other using a stand which is carefully placed, such as this one is very helpful indeed. When you have a range of instruments and amps all in close proximity of each other you do need to make sure each and every instrument is in its set place when it is put back after use to minimize knocks or bumps. Therefore I do feel that if you have other instruments close by, the small effort of making sure your guitar is seated correctly in the Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand will ensure that if it gets a few slight knocks or bumps it won't slip in the stand and become damaged and either mark or bump another instrument near to it . Another tip when using this stand would be to make sure your guitar strap is not sitting across any of the parts of the stand that could catch on it, as that could mean that you end up dragging the stand with you when picking up your guitar. This is some thing I find I try to keep clear of with all the stands I have not just the Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand. ~Materials~ ********* I feel it is a good idea to talk briefly about the materials used to make up the Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand as I feel they do give the stand plenty of strength and durability. The main parts of the stand are made from black powder coated metal and they give Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand plenty of strength, none of the parts of the metal have rusted (which is usual for this type of stand) and all sides of the metal remains nicely coated in the black paint effect. There are textured rubber type grips on the feet of the stand and these make sure that the stands sits well and is not easily slid around on the floor surface. They also help to steady the stand and make a firm base to seat your guitar on, they do need to be sat on a nice flat surface to begin with so that they don't rock or tilt as this would cause the whole stand to be unstable. The top of the Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand has a protective black plastic cover which keeps the tops of the metal parts safely enclosed helping to avoid trapped fingers when setting up the stand. This top plastic cover also forms part of the support for the back of your guitar when it is in place and as long as you seat your guitar into the stand with care it shouldn't cause any scratching to your guitars body. If you are worried you could glue on a soft velour type patch to make 100% certain that the rear support ensures your guitar base is kept scratch free. The cradle arms or hooks are covered in a foam rubber type of material that is padded enough to allow your guitar to sit in place with out damaging it. ~Price and rating~ ************** The price of the Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand shown here is £16.84 at the moment which is an average price for a similar style of stand. The company have a nice range of other stands should this one not be suited to your needs and I have found that they are a reliable company with a good standard of customer service. To rate the Dolphin Electric Guitar Stand I need to take into consideration the price verses the quality and durability of the product and as such I feel a 4 star product rating is more than fair. Dolphin Basic Jumbo Guitar Case
by SoadFan ~Don't call me Jumbo as I am no white elephant!~ *************************************** Having recently updated the guitar collection and purchased another lovely new electro acoustic the issue of a new guitar case reared its ugly, bulky and pricey head once again. With the price of a good quality guitar usually costing ... an arm and a leg it is always wise to invest in a sturdy and well made case if you are going to be transporting your gear from one place to another. Some of the guitars I have are on stands on display, whilst others are in their carry cases which is where the Dolphin Basic Jumbo Guitar Case comes into play. Whilst on the phone to the very helpful sales assistant at Dolphin Music I asked what sort of case might suit my new guitar at which point the Dolphin Basic Jumbo Guitar Case was mentioned as being one they knew would fit the guitar with some room to spare. The Dolphin Basic Jumbo Guitar Case was a new item at the time so there was no picture to go on on the website so the purchase was made blind, trusting purely on the advice of the assistant. As the case has been in use for sometime I felt it was worth reviewing here so a product suggestion was made to allow me to share my thoughts. The case is still available to buy on line with a display picture and some information. ~A Jumbo Dolphin you say!~ ********************** When the Dolphin Basic Jumbo Guitar Case arrived it came in a huge and I do mean huge cardboard box that dwarfed almost everything in its sight and once out of the box it was covered in a protective slightly padded material that had to be taken of so that the case could be fully inspected. Once that was off the Dolphin Basic Jumbo Guitar Case was there in its full glory looking almost as huge as it did in the box. Although I was told it would be a roomy case I had no idea it was going to be quite so big and I was worried it may be too big for the guitar in question. Once the case was opened the inside was inspected and once I was happy that there were no rough edges etc, I tried the guitar in the case for size. The inside of the case has a really nice fluffy black fur kind of finish to it rather than the velveteen material some guitar cases use. The furry inner layer has a good degree of padding underneath it which makes for a nice and cozy soft base on which to place the guitar safely. The entire inner surface has this black fur on it and it all seems to be glued or stitched in place well with no parts that have come away. The outer materials used for the Dolphin Basic Jumbo Guitar Case are very sturdy and strong with the materials used being in a thick black vinyl which stands up really well to knocks and bumps. The hardware on the case is made from a silver chromed effect material and the hinges work well keeping the lid in the right position when the case is left open, so as to not fall down and crush my poor little fingers. The locks on the case have a set of 2 keys with them and 1 of the locks on the case has not worked correctly since purchase. I know I could have asked for a new case but I decided not to send the whole thing back as other than that is is well made and works well. The other lock is working and the snap over fasteners that clip down over the case do manage to hold it firmly shut at all times, so the 1 faulty lock is not really a problem. The handle on the Dolphin Basic Jumbo Guitar Case is well made and offers a good amount of comfort when the case is being carried. The case it bulky and although it is not overly heavy it does need a good strong handle such as the one it has. ~The fit and feel of the Dolphin Basic Jumbo Guitar Case~ ******************************************** The Dolphin Basic Jumbo Guitar Case is a guitar shaped case that offers a good deal of protection to the guitar that sits inside, it although it was not a completely snug fit it was easy enough to sort out the case and get a better fit. With the inner plush material being in a plain black all that was needed was a furry covered piece of foam that was long and slim enough to sit under the bottom of the guitar rather than under it, which would sit around the outer edge of the case. Once that was sorted out the guitar inside had the best fit possible with this case and I would say that depending on your guitars size and shape a little adjusting such as this may be needed yet is not hard to do. ~Rating and price~ ************** Other than the small issues mentioned I feel that the Dolphin Basic Jumbo Guitar Case has worked as it should and the materials used have held up well. The inner section of the case has a compartment for storing other items within it which although common in many guitar cases is a nice feature that can be useful. With the price of the case at full price being £89.49 it is a mid range case that offers good value for money. Over all I feel that the case does what it should and the only real downside is that it is a little larger on the outside than I expected it to be so it does take up a fair amount of room. Over all I feel that the case should get a 4 star product rating as it is very strong and durable and will offer a good deal of protection to many types of electro acoustic/ acoustic guitars at a fair price. I feel Dolphin Music offer a good range of products such as this one that are backed up with good customer care and fair prices. Read the complete review |
