Peavey Guitar Polishing Cloth
by 2night
I previously reviewed the Peavey Guitar Polish and stated that I had never used this cloth that is designed specifically to be used with the polish. My best friend read that review and bought me the Preavey Guitar Polishing Cloth as a gift.
I thought It would have been just like any cloth, as in my review of the polish I had ... said what I had been using for all my guitar cleaning needs. I had been using any pieces of clean, soft material. That had been doing a great job up until I got this cloth that shows how good a polish it is. But since using this cloth I have noticed an even deeper shine on my lovely acoustic guitar. That same shine was there with the clean rag I was using previously but this cloth worked faster and seemed to encourage absorption into the wood rather than into the cloth. The cloth itself is made of a very soft, silky feeling microfiber and measures a larger than I expected 12.7cm by 21.6cm.
It comes in a small verity of colours the ones available in the store near me include yellow, tan and dark grey. These cloths ARE lint free. That for me, is the most important things when it comes to any polishing cloth. A cheap yellow shammy cloth can be bought anywhere but you will soon find that irritating yellow fluff and billions of tiny, little yellow hairs end up on your wood surface. That of course defeats the purpose of polishing in the first place.
This cloth will buff out fingerprints and smudges off the body of the guitar without any product. But for more stubborn greasy buildup the cloth alone doesn't really do the job, a light spray of wood polish Pravey or not helps lift the grime. As the cloth is only new I have yet to clean it, or dry it. My friend said it can be popped into the washing machine so I will update my review with the results good or bad, however he said his is fine and that he has washed it this way loads of times.
My music store is selling these for £4 at the moment, I can't really say if these are a wonder cloth, a good lint free cloth would do just as good a job I expect and wouldn't cost as much.

Peavey Guitar String Cleaner
by 2night
A string cleaner? Isn't that going a bit too far?
Well in my opinion no. As I said in a previous review, strings can be a bit temperamental if abused, or overplayed they can snap without warning, this I find isn't as common as some may suggest I find you can hear when a string is loosing it's magic. This can happen also from the ... natural oils that our fingertips and hands secret. Also as disgusting as it may sound sweat plays a part in the life cycle of your strings. When performing under bright lights a musicians' hands are going to get a bit clammy and all of this muck ends up on the strings.
Most people including me will say that they don't have the strings on their guitar long enough for any build up to occur. And if you are changing your strings very often maybe this isn't the product for you. But if you find you get a reasonable amount of time out of your strings and would like to add a little bit longer to their life then you could do worse than giving this a go. I find when I'm giving the body of my guitar a clean that it makes sense to also clean the strings. Be careful not to use the same product for both uses as they can be damaging if applied to a surface not specified in the instructions.
I simply spray a small amount of the Peavey Guitar String Cleaner onto a clean, dry, soft cloth. I never spray it directly on to the strings as most of it just goes straight through the gaps and ends up on the frets rather than the strings. I then carefully and gently rub from the top of the strings, all the way down to the bottom. I fold the cloth like a sandwich and the strings are the filling. This way I not only clean the top I also clean and nourish the under side at the same time. I can really see a difference in the strings once I have used this product. It moisturises the strings as it cleans, as drying them out would result in them breaking even faster than normal, that is why you shouldn't use standard cleaners for this use.
This isn't going to make your strings last forever, look at it as maintenance. I pay £4 for a 160ml bottle and it lasts me ages as very little of the product is needed with each application.
If pampering the strings means I get a little more life out of them in the long run I think this is money very well spent.

Peavey Guitar Polish Formula
by 2night
Peavey guitar polish formula is simply a wood polish specifically designed to treat and nourish the wood of your cherished instrument. With regular use an acoustic guitar can become a bit grubby. The oils from your hands can build up on the shiny polished surface of the guitar. This can result in an unsightly black greasy buildup. We can ... clean and polish our wooden furniture at home and they don't get half the use a well played guitar gets.
The same grime that can be found on door frames and the head and arm rests of leather furniture can be found on all wooden instruments, such as cellos, violins and most of all guitars. That's where the Peavey Guitar Polish Formula comes in to play. It is a very simple to use spray, it comes out in a very light mist and covers a good surface in just one spray. The lightness of the mist is a good thing as a heavy wax takes far more time to rub in. I spray the body of my acoustic guitar front and back with this light mist, leave for a few seconds (longer if the grime build up is really bad) than using a dry, clean, lint free cloth I wipe off the residue and buff in as I go.
There is a polishing cloth available from the Peavey range for this particular use, although I don't own one so I can't recommend it. There is also a value pack that includes the polish and he cloths, so that may be worth looking out for if you are considering buying this product.
I however find any old, SOFT, clean piece of material does the job. To get an even richer, deeper shine I find it really useful to return back to the guitar after a few minutes and give it a good buff with a different, totally clean cloth. This results in a wonderfully shiny wood finish with absolutely no remaining residue. I feel more comfortable using a product that is designed for guitars and not just a standard all purpose wood polish. My professional musician friend however does not agree with me, and suggests that I use a good name wax based home polish and stop wasting my money on this product that has basically the same ingredients, after all it is wood. Maybe he's right.
