Advantages: Great range of adjustable controls

Disadvantages: can take time to 'find you sound'

Another effects pedal from the huge audio well knowns Behringer! Behringer are known for producing audio gear which may also exist but generally at a cheaper price.

Theyre not particularly known for producing guitar effects pedals but this is one of the range that they do make, the 'Ultra metal' pedal designed for the heaviest of rockers out there! I personally dont play alot of metal material myself but this does produce a very nice distortion tone for other purposes as well!

Unlike other distortion pedals in this range, the ultra metal does feature some more expansive controls compared to others. For example this pedal features a three band equaliser where the mid frequency also give the user to select which specific frequency is adjusted unlike the the low and high eq which are set at a specific frequency band. Besides the equalisation options the pedal also has adjustable knobs for both the amount of distortion being applied to the original tone as well as an overall output level for the pedal.

It can be powered by either an internal 9v battery or an external Dc power supply, from personal use there is no real major difference although using a battery power supply can sometimes add a slight hiss to the tone but this will be most likely drowned out by the distortion anyway! It is nice for the pedal to have the portable power availability either way especially for guitarists who are moving their gear about on stage!

As i said before im not a big user of this pedal for heavy metal so it is very good in terms of its number of uses from genre to genre, the only problem i did find was that it can take a fair bit of time of tweaking each of the settings to get the sound your looking for, it is certainly nice to have the expanded equaliser controls available but this does also make the addition of more knobs to adjust each time!

Overall this is a very malleable pedal which can be used for a number of styles! the tone is very clear and sharp and would definently give other pedals a run for their money but as i said the amount of controls available does also make it tough to find a tone quickly! Overall good by though, just try one out in the shop first!

Summary: Great tone for the price!
