Advantages: Low cost, high quality easily available, lots of options

Disadvantages: Pickups are no better than ok

Squier guitars almost exclusively make cheaper copies of guitars made by it's big brother, Fender. Probably one of the most famous guitars in the world is the Strat, and here's squiers take on the model.

Now some people tend to look down on Squiers as cheap knock off Fenders, when in reality they are made to the same standards and measurements as Fender but made with cheaper materials in countries with cheaper labour.

Often seen as a beginners guitar, and it is quiet obvious why. When I am asked what guitar a beginner should get often a squier or a Yamaha is the answer.

The consistency is there with Squiers, no matter what shop you go into they will have at least one for you to play and they always feel and look good.

Available in various colours and trim they really are perfect for thos wanting their first guitar as there will always be something for everyone. Also they are a great guitar to upgrade parts on as your playing improves. Many a gigging guitarist will have a squier somewhere with upgraded pickups, and it's often their most played guitar.

The sounds from the guitar are pretty good for cheap pickups and due to the strats 3 pickups and 5 way switch the range of sounds is almost endless.

For those who want to learn electric guitar, for those who want a work horse guitar or those who want something to try some upgrades on you can't go wrong with grabbing a squier strat.

Summary: Brilliant guitar for less than £150
