It may be ugly, but it works (Fender Telecasters in general)

Advantages: good sound, looks cool, just is good

Disadvantages: gets a bit jingly jangly, can be a bit testing

When i first starting playing guitar, it was on one of those horrible things you find in the middle pages of argos made by Encore. Yes, the really poor black, strat- esque thing that is pretty terrible. Then, success! my birthday rolled around, and in came a beautiful blue Telecaster (a Squire you understand, the poor man's Tele).

As i'd only been playing guitar for about a year when i got this beautiful piece of machinery, i was pretty crap on it. Much practice and paitence later, it was only then that i'd realised what a great guitar the Telecaster actually is. Shoved through my pretty nifty Zoom 505 effects peddle, and the Tele sounds blistering. Raw, rough and ready, it still packs a punch and sounds a lot more accomplished that say, a strat even.

Most of my favourite singers/ bands use Tele's too (idlewild, PJ Harvey, Radiohead, etc.), so i was as pretty chuffed. Countless times i've stood in front of the mirror pretending to be Pete Townshend, and what a guitar to do it with. Sure, it sounds tinny and jangly sometimes, but get some effects, or simply overdrive the thing and it takes on a whole new dimention.

The only problem is that when you want that Strat sound or that Les Paul sound, the Tele can't do that much other than it's own sound.

Nevertheless, if you want to play guitar, the Telecaster is a pretty good place to start.
