I have always sworn by Ernie Ball strings. Ever since I had my first guitar, I have used them. The reason being that they have always been reliable, durable and nice sounding.
The Strings that come on any guitar from the factory, particularly on cheap guitars, are not normally very good. They are a very heavy gauge and you end up cutting your fingers by having to press too hard.
With Ernie Ball, there is never a problem like that. The strings are very light gauge and easy to press without heavy pressure required for a clean, crisp note.
For a more Rock sound, its best to opt for a 9 gauge string package and a heavier 13 gauge for acoustic type sounds.
Give them a try. A Full set is only £4.99.
That is quite for a set of strings. They are made in the USA too where the Glorious Fenders come from.

I've also used Ernie Ball strings for a long time, but nowhere near exclusively; sure, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', but over the years I've tried a number of different brands and gauges as my playing style has evolved and changed.

I'm currently paying £2.65 for a pack of strings - half that from most shops, and the strings are great - no problems whatsoever - look around on the net, you can find great deals, and the most expensive are not always the best...

Also, don't be afraid to experiment with different gauges - lighter strings are great for faster playing, but they really do lack sustain and tone compared to a heavier set.

Heavier strings last longer, and will strengthen your fingers which can only help you to play better.
