Advantages: Looks, Action, Sound
Disadvantages: Strange Electronics
This guitar was given to me by my dad.. I don't know how old it is, but I think he got it in the 70's. I'd say it's worth about £300 now minimum. The description of this guitar is: Semi-Acoustic arched body (It's a bit like an Epiphone Sheraton) with f-holes. Tobacco sunburst finish Black bindings Tortoiseshell Pickguard 2 Humbuckers (with black casing), 2 Volume, 2 Tone, 2 selector Switches, 6 way-rotary switch Dot inlays I think Aria make guitars like this today as well, so I expect they're of similar build/quality etc. This guitar is very good for Jazz and has a lovely sound.. it also works quite nicely for heavy rock because of the humbuckers.. I would not recommend using it for that though, as it'd probably get broken. However, it is a strong guitar, I've dropped it, and it hasn't broken yet! The neck is quite thin, which makes it suited to rhythm guitaring rather than lead. It's true to say that this guitar is a lot better than my Fender at Jazz chords. The fingerboard is very nice in fact, it's good to play Jazz solos on too. Another feature of this guitar is that it looks stunning. A little polish and everyone will think that it is an extremely nice guitar, from people who don't know one guitar from another to enthusiasts. The electronics on this guitar puzzle me constantly. I know that one of the switches goes between bridge and neck pickups and the tone/volume controls work as normal. However, the other switch and the 6 way rotary switch have me puzzled. There's definately some coil tapping going on, but in that case, why both switches. I have no idea. Still, it's possible to get a variety of good sounds out of it! This guitar is great for Jazz and quite good for rock too. It also looks stunning. I would recommend this guitar for any semi-professional Jazz guitarist.
