If you are thinking of learning an instrument, no matter what type of music you like, LEARN THE GUITAR! Firstly, the guitar is not the easiest instrument so you will need patience If you are considering learning it. There are loads of different styles of guitar that are used. Some of these include Rock Guitar - usually a lead riff backed with power chords, Grunge or Heavy Metal Guitar - Based around power chords and very overdriven, Classical Guitar - usually Spanish-style plucking with a nylon stringed guitar, commonly read from sheet music, Blues Guitar - best known with artists like Jimi Hendrix and B.B.King, this style is unique in that it is slow and very smoothly played. There are many more different syles to be found and I find all of them interesting to try out. Another great thing is that the guitar is a solo instrument aswell. This is great because you can sit in your room and play and it will sound just like the CD if you are good enough. This can be very entertaining wheras other instruments like the drums are very easy to get bored of because there is no real tune involved. The guitar has no limits to what you can do and also it is very easy to carry around if you want to practice with a band.
If you are thinking of buying a guitar, there is a massive range to choose from. Most people start straight on electric guitar and spend £200 on a low-range one. I would recomend that you get a cheap acoustic nylon string guitar first because the acoustic guitar is harder to play and therefore if you get quite good on the acoustic, it is very easy to play and electric when you eventually get one. Also, if you decide that guitar is not the thing for you, you won't have wasted a lot of money.
