Advantages: Good Price, Good Amp

Disadvantages: Average Guitar, Costs A Lot In Strings

I felt I should warn beginner players about buying new guitars. The basic price for a cheap guitar is about £188. For this you'll get the guitar (electric,) an amp, and the cords and other basic peripherals. It is important you choose the right pack. If you aren't happy with what you get, it may dampen your appreciation and dedication towards guitar playing. I got the Peavey set. It is usable enough, but I wouldn't recommend it for the guitar. The strings have a tendency to buzz, which can be more than irritating, and the bridge seems to of a fairly low quality, as strings seem to break less easily on other guitars. Finally the positioning of the tone, volume and pick-up selectors aren't very well placed, as the arm can accidently move them when strumming. the tone of the guitar is quite solid, and loud. To get the best of it, the use of picks aren't advised, as they add to the buzzing sound.
The amp on the other hand is very impressive for the price, it is capable of very clean sounds, or very dirty sounds. My slight problem is that when the volume is turned up very high, notes and chords become a blur, and you don't get the definition you might of needed.
The pack included a 30 ft cord, picks, strap and a simple book, none of which is remarkable. The guitar comes in black, red or white.
So in conclusion, the Peavey beginner set is a fairly comfortable buy, but it is flawed. These things might not matter so much to the beginner, but if you make some good progress, then you might find that you grow out of it quite quickly.

Although its a short op, its pretty well packed with info, not bad at all :) Brings back memories of really bad guitar playing, I stick to air guitar these days, I'm much better at that......
