Advantages: EMG-designed pickups

Disadvantages: The action might be a bit high

The Ibanez RGR321EX is a new model from 2007 and is part of the Ibanez' fixed bridge series. It has a stylish glossy black finish, basswood body and passive EMG designed pickups. It has a tone knob, a volume knob and a 5-way pick-up selector. Simple and beautiful.

I was not expecting much from the passive stock pickups, but they did actually impress. The guitar is capable of producing a variety of tones, from thick and meaty Metal rhythm guitar to bright acoustic tones. It's also notable that there is hardly any noise.

The Wizard II neck has 24 frets, is thin and made of smooth wood. The guitar is extremely comfortable to play, and the fretboard has a nice feel to it. When I received the guitar, it was perfectly set up, with low action (the strings hovering close to the frets). The fixed bridge ensures the guitar doesn't go out of tune, even after intense riffing.

I've been using this guitar for recordings, varying in style from Metal to Rock and Acoustic, and it has been effortless to achieve the desired sound with this guitar.

This guitar offers extreme value for money. It looks great, it sounds great, it feels great!

The price seems to range from £200 to £250. I managed to get mine for £170 (B stock, had been used for demonstration).

Summary: Value for money.
