Patrick Eggle - Berlin JS Legend ‘Big Jim’ Sullivan signature model Emerald Green Sunburst over flame maple top Maple neck, Ebony fretboard with falling maple leaf inlay Black and Gold Sperzel & Wilkinson Hardware EMG active pickups with single coil switch and mid range boost Eggle are a British company based in Coventry, and have for a number of years been producing a wide range of electric guitars. Back in early 1994, after having been playing for about six years, and coming to the conclusion that my Washburn KC-40 was reaching the end of its useful life, I decided that the time was right to aim for a more professional, quality instrument, one that would last many, many years and grow with me as a performer. I suppose at the time I was looking for something a bit different, and as soon as I saw a brochure, I was immediately struck by the beauty and styling of their ranges, but particularly with the Berlin. And so, after a great deal of soul searching and indecision over details, features and finish, I finally plucked (no pun intended) up enough courage to go to my local music shop and place an order; a signature model, one of only 150 that was to be produced. Looking back, I’m fully aware that I could have bought 2 or 3 strats for the same price; a top Ibanez (the 7-string Universe had always caught my fancy), or maybe, just maybe, even a PRS… (yes, I know they look similar, but one thing I can assure you of is that these are not just poor imitations!) But the day came, it arrived; and it was truly beautiful to behold… And six years on, the attraction is still the same. I am even now discovering new aspects about its character and tonal qualities. It has stood up to a fair amount of travelling and playing, in this country, across Europe and America, bouncing around in the back of all manner of different vehicles, and remained in tune, and as easy to play as ever.
I must be fair and say that I have not had an entirely trouble-free time with this instrument; it took a long while to become comfortable with the peculiarities of the Wilkinson bridge (which even resulted in having to return it to Eggle to try and sort out), and I have had to replace the bridge saddles and jack socket due to wear, but all-in-all, this is a very fine instrument that I have enjoyed playing and will continue to do so for as long as I am able. The construction is superb, the flame maple top and neck are wonderful, and it just plays great, what more can I say?

- 03/11/00 I get a real bad noise problem when I touch my jack lead in the socket. I have to hold the lead in a certain way. Does this sound like a faulty Jack socket to you? If so, I had better get it replaced. Can you leave a message here if you can answer it!!! Cheers!
