Advantages: Great tone, Great durabbility and High quality

Disadvantages: none

As an avid bass player for a number of years now, I thought it was time to increase the number of bass-related reviews on dooyoo, an area where dooyoo certainly seems to be lacking. Many bassists will know that strings are only changed once in a blue moon unless you're quite particular. However, that cannot be said for the guitar as I regularly find myself snapping the top e string, resulting in a complete new set of strings for my electric guitar. This is necessary otherwise your top e would sound out of place if it had been the only string changed. So for any people interested in buying a bass you'll be pleased to know that the maintenance is unusually low due to infrequent change of string.

I had some Rotosound strings on my bass for about 2 years without any signs of rust or decay. However, as the bass was terrible, (not even the strings could change that) I purchased a new one, a Fender Jazz, after a couple of months the strings started to rust so I quickly bought myself some Rotosound 66's.

When I had changed strings, I noticed it gave a sort of twangy/pingy sound. Stick with it and don't let it put you off because after a few days or so the sound improves and you have a kickin' sound to your bass guitar. The tone that can be received from these strings is a real raw tone but varies depending on your bass guitar and amplifier.

I am quite interested in slap as a bassist and slappin' and poppin' still sounds very good on 66 strings. However, if you are in a funk band or you use a lot of your time playing slap, I would recommend some big fat strings as it will sound much better and improve your accuracy.

You can get Rotosound strings in practically every music store and online and will probably set you back about £15. It's well worth it and much better than it's shop rivals unless you are a fan of the old boiling strings in a pan technique.

Summary: Awesome bass strings
