Tanglewood Basses in generalNewest Review: ... rather than guitar. Most of these points apply to all electro-acoustic basses. The specific merits of the Tanglewood is that it's relatively inexpensive (compared the the general market level) but a compentent performer. You can certainly buy a better electro-acoustic bass - but this is the best I've found for anywhere near the price (price given included strap, stand and gig bag - I ... more |

My name's Wulf and I'm a bass player... Last year, my addiction to the art of the low reached the point where I wanted to be able to make the deep notes even when I couldn't plug in, and so I started looking round for a decent, affordable electro-acoustic instrument. The answer I found was a translucent blue, four string Tanglewood Odyssey bass (see picture at http://www.web-den.org.uk/bassist/). Firstly, let me give a run down of the physical characteristics of the bass: 22 fret neck (with diamond inlay markers) 34" scale length Tuners mounted two a side, on a small but curvy headstock Dark fretboard, medium profile ... I feel I should share with the world my latest purchase in the Music industry. Reason being is that im ecstatic about it! 2 days before Christmas, I felt like treating myself to a little present. Not your ordinary present either. Im playing bass in a band called Vinyl Elektra and although I love my Fenders and Marlin(ugh!) It was time to get a warmer sounding instrument to complement our retro style of music (late 60's). Being Left handed, Im limited to a small range of products. One of the better suppliers to the "Leftie" Musician is Tanglewood. Tanglewood make a darn fine range of instruments but they also make the best looking ... Read the complete review

I got this bass, the Tanglewood Rebel 4k, at Christmas 99, I got it in a special (cos I bought some other guitars too), reduced from £230 to £200. Here are the details: 4 String Bass Dark Green Translucent finish 24 Fret Maple neck with painted headstock and rosewood. fingerboard Gold hardware 2 volume, 1 tone control 1 Split pickup, 1 normal pickup This is a lovely guitar too look at, and even better to feel. It has lovely contours on the body and seems to fit just right when I'm playing it. Although the body is quite small (the neck is massive in comparison), this guitar has a great tone. With tapewound ... Read the complete review

I until recently owned a fender precision bass, it was a good bass with a smooth neck and powerful sound if a little unbalanced towards the low end. I traded it for a Tanglewood mm-44, which is a musicman copy. When I first played this bass I fell in love with it. It's about a quarter of the weight of the fender but with all the sound and more. The mm-44 has a real punchy sound that cuts through other band members with ease without overpowering them, a real problem I had with the fender was getting a sound that could be heard in between two guitarists without completly destroying the sound. The Neck is just wonderful, the finger board is much flatter than ... Read the complete review
