Advantages: Shape, Contours, Fretboard, Sound, Price, Build Quality

Disadvantages: Slight string buzz

I got this bass, the Tanglewood Rebel 4k, at Christmas 99, I got it in a special (cos I bought some other guitars too), reduced from £230 to £200.

Here are the details:

4 String Bass
Dark Green Translucent finish
24 Fret Maple neck with painted headstock and rosewood. fingerboard
Gold hardware
2 volume, 1 tone control
1 Split pickup, 1 normal pickup

This is a lovely guitar too look at, and even better to feel. It has lovely contours on the body and seems to fit just right when I'm playing it.
Although the body is quite small (the neck is massive in comparison), this guitar has a great tone. With tapewound strings it sounds excellent, and is very nice to play.
The fingerboard is of excellent build, with excellent fretwork and inlays. It feels great to play. There is a little string buzz, but this is because of the tapewound strings (and because I am normally a 6 string player).
There is a good variety of sounds that the bass can produce. It can produce a great punchy sound, a low rumbling sound, and a piercing high-bass boom. It produces a great rock sound.
The 24 Fret neck is excellent, it means you can dance all over the fretboard as you want. The build quality on this guitar is also excellent, all the dot markers on the top of the fingerboard are in line, this is rarely the case on guitars of this cost. There is one slight blemish on the back of the neck, there's a small scratch, but then, I might have done that, so I'd better not blame Tanglewood :)

All in all, this is a very impressive guitar, I'd recommend it for most bass players at semi-professional level, especially those playing rock. It looks really cool in the mirror too ;)
