      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Good place to start when buying first bass give it a go before you go with squier

Reliability wise these basses are excellent for the price, my first bass was one of the budget series and served me for a number of years. The shape and tone will not be to everyones taste but for me it was acceptable. Bass was a little top heavy for my liking and was not quite as thick as I wanted again for the price whose complaining? Would definately recommend the lower end basses to those with a limited budget as they are miles ahead of the competition in that area such as squier and the dreaded encore. Tuners were a problem on the bass I had but this is to be expected of the basses in the budget range. Would have preferred the size to be slightly larger and the neck was not as long as I would've liked but that seems to be a characteristic of the shape rather than a fault of the bass in general.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      A strong all rounder.....

I am currently playing a yamaha RBX374 4-string which i bought for around £220 when it was brand new, In the shop they offerd me the 5-string version but that was an extra £70. For 5 more notes i wasnt really up for paying that as i was working with 6 string guitarists and didnt see much need for it. The RBX374 is awesome in making low end sounds, it produces muddy low notes as good as any bass ive ever played regardless of manufacter or price. Although this awesome bass is great at the low end sounds, its mid and high end are relatively firm too making this bass strong in all genres of playing such as rock, blues, funk etc. Players who prefer to play with a plectrum or finger pick will both be happy with this bass as yamaha have coverd nearly all areas with it, finding a wacky out there effect on my pedals ( All Zooms ) then bridge picking away creates some of the best sounds ive ever heard a bass create. This bass is all about trying to find the best sound for you whether its slap and pop or trying to draw out some low notes to groove along to everything is here. The only problem i have found with this bass is that if i leave my jack leads in by accident the battery in the active pick ups ( neck and bridge ) run out extremely fast, this is a problem as half way through a performance the volume of the bass gets louder and quiter in a wace until the batterys are changed. However i do belive this is a fault with my bass as others i have discussed this with did not have any similar problems.

Please rate this review highly as i feel people out there should know about this fantastic bass, sorry for any mistakes or anything i have left out, if you want any further information or just want to review my reveiw feel free to leave a comment, thanks.
