The Yamaha Pacifica 112 is often classed as a 'beginners' guitar due to it simple look and budget price. However, I disagree with this as overall it is a very sturdy guitar which will offer many years of advanced guitar playing if treated well. The pickups on this guitar are 2 single coils, and 1 humbucker. This means that the pickup switch can be adjusted to produce a range of sounds from twangy country, to a 'dirty' rock sound. I personally love that the pickup switch can be placed in five different positions as it allows me to play in a range of styles, from Rock to more acoustic sounding music (my personal two favourite genres). This was my first guitar, and I can safely say that I would recommend it to anybody starting to play the guitar. It is pretty easy to learn on. It has fret markers, which are dots on certain frets so that you know where you are when playing, making it easier to play tabbed music. The pickups are pretty good on the Yamaha, giving you a clean and crisp sound, there are five different pickup settings that you can use, this basically means that you choose which pickups will "pick-up" the sound more, but for those who haven't played guitar before, you need an amplifier to go with it, or else you might as well get an acoustic guitar. After expressing in interest in playing the guitar for many months i was finally taken to the local music shop to pick out a guitar for my birthday by my parents. I will admit that at age 10 it was more the blue colour that grabbed my attention than the actual guitar itself, but after careful consideration by my parents and some input from the guys that worked there we settle on a yamaha pacifica package. The guitar is styled like a Stratocaster and has 3 pickups, a volume and tone control and a 5way pickup.
