John Frieda Precision Foam Colour Hair Dye
by Helrobs
I have been dying my hair for over ten years now and have used a variety of products. While I used to have favourite types of dye I never had a strong brand loyalty and often switched. That was until this product came out. For a year now I have been using their 'Radiant Red' which is a medium brown colour with a hint of red. It is a ... beautiful shade and the red tone only becomes apparent in bright light which helps give it a more natural feel. I have been using it ever since it hit the shelves and I will now only use this product even though it costs a bit more than other similar products. (it's £9.99 per box so it's not a huge expense, but other self dye kits are probably about a third cheaper.)
Remember to do a patch test on skin before using this product, like with any other dye.
To mix the product you need to add the colourant into the developer. After putting the lid back on the developer bottle you tilt the product to mix, don't shake it! It says to tilt the bottle 5 times, I just feel that it normally needs to be tilted a little bit more, about 8 times, to get the foam to be thick and get an even colour. Once the dye is mixed you should use it straight away. Remove the cap and add the pump to the bottle.
I really like the pump action and it seems to work really well at distributing the colour evenly. The foam is thick and creamy and easy to spread through hair. I have very thick hair and it's about shoulder length but I find that the colour covers all of it well, as long as I use the whole bottle. I also have quite a lot of grey hairs around the front of my head and it covers them well too. To do this the dye needs an extra 10 minutes as grey hairs take a bit longer to absorb the colour. The intensive conditioner that comes in the box should be applied after washing ALL the colour out, it does take quite a while to ensure all the colour is out but be patient, it's worth it!
This product also gives nice shine. There are lots of different colours available and so there is bound to be one right for you. It really is a well made, well priced product. It doesn't have the pungent smell of some of the other dyes and is incredibly easy to use. As it is foam it drips far less than other dyes but be careful not to put too much foam in your hand at once as it can spill and then stain carpets or clothing! Read the complete review |

L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil Colour Protect
by Helrobs
I will admit that I am the sort of person who will try all sorts of new things, and am a marketing teams dream when the word 'New' is applied to products, especially when it comes to hair products. But, this does mean I am a good judge!
This oil really is extraordinary, whatever your hair issues are. I suffer from dry hair ... and constantly dying it sucks moisture out of hair even if it originally has really good condition. This oil is so versatile, I sometimes use it as a really intensive conditioner by applying it to dry hair before washing it which leaves it shiny and not at all greasy. It also adds a much richer dimension to my coloured hair. I tend to mainly use it straight after washing and before drying to give my hair an all over shine. I simply squirt 2-3 drops onto my hands, rub together and then smooth through my hair. As my hair is dry I smooth it right from roots to tips, but if your hair is oily then it would probably be advisable to leave the roots.
The product doesn't have to be used on all your hair if it's not needed. It's also great if you get whispy bits of hair that are hard to control, just smooth it on them and they are a lot easier to style. I find that if my hair needs a cut and the ends are a bit dry adding the oil can tide me over for a bit longer too!
The only warning is that if you have dry hair and don't wash it every day the product can make your hair a bit greasy if you use it on consecutive days. Also, be sparing with it, 2-4 drops really is enough. I use the product at least every couple of days and have thick hair so probably use about 4 drops at a time. I have had it for 3 months and used less than a fifth of the bottle. The bottle cost £9.99 so it's really economical, and much cheaper than Morrocan Oil alternatives. It also has a really nice, gentle smell. Read the complete review |

Avon Pop Up Brush
by sarah1976
I purchased a Pop up brush from avon thinking I could..well...pop it in my hand bag to have handy when I needed to brush my hair whilst out and about.
The fold away brush is great to look at, a brilliant idea..it fits neatly in your handbag only slightly longer than a credit card and about an inch and a half wide. The brush ... folds in half, when opened at the hinge it is ore like an ordinary if not smallish hairbrush. The rubber section where the bristles sit curves out and the handle has a mirror set in it. This is all brilliant....
However once I came to use the hairbrush on my fine straight hair, the brush section came unplugged from the handle, it was easy to fix but every time it caught the slightest snag on my hair it fell apart again, now I do not have very thick hair at all it is straight and rarely knots, this brush was totally useless to me.
It cost £3.50 which at the time I thought was pretty cheap but I am not impressed with this item at all! Not a good buy! Read the complete review |
