Remington Super UN-smooth NO-Steam Straightener

Well i first saw this straightener in the Argos catalogue a few months before christmas. I picked it out of the whole selection in the catalouge as the best looking, best value and also it looked kinda funky and modern. I also wanted a steam straightner, but i didnt want to buy the simple babyliss steam straightner, although i had borrowed it previously from a friend and knew it worked.

Well the remington super smooth steam straightener, was also able to be used for hair crimping and also putting waves into hair, and im one of those people who likes to try out loadsa different things with the hair, when i get the chance, so this product would be perfect for me.

I was going to buy this straightener for myself in about Novemeber 2002, but i never got round to it, so i asked for it for christmas from my parents.

I got it mid-December and didn't wait til christmas to use it, as i was so excited. i also thought i would love it do much, that i would still be grateful for it by christmas time. Well i was wrong.

The first product i had, i got out of the box, keen to use, but the plates were scratched! So i got my mom to take it back, i thought it would just be a one off, so i asked her to just switch it for a different one of the same kind. Now i wish i had taken that chance to get a different one, maybe the reliable babyliss one!

On the first use of the straightner, i was very disappointed. The first thign i noticed, was that it didnt actually steam. There is no 'steam' button for steam on demand, but i thought that maybe it would just steam automatically. After i while it still didnt use any steam. Then i noticed a slight little hissing noise, so i thought here comes the steam, but it disapointed me, when a tiny dribble of WATER came out. Throughout the rest of the tiem i used it water just dribbled out and it was really starting to Annoy me!

idnt really notice any straightening of my hair, my hair is quite straight naturally, but the way i dry it, it usually ends up with a few kinks in it. and i wanted my hair to be perfectly straight and styled for when i went out. I thought maybe it wasnt hot enough, but seen as i'd followed all the instructions i don't think this was the problem.

The MAIN thing i disliked about this product was that my plates didnt line up correctly. The straightener is like a pair of tongs, which you squeeze by hand for the plates to push together, but on my product, the one end joins up and then it slants, so the other end isnt touching ! The problem with this is, if u press it hard enough so they both match up, then it is so tight at the other end, that it pulls your hair and its really difficult to move it through your hair without hurting, if you press it too loosely, then one side doesn't get touched by the plates, so No straightening. i also tried to just put my hair in the side that joined up, but it just moves and doesn't work very well.

Well i have tried to use it once more since then, as i dont like giving up easily, but i couldn't even get halfway through my hair without becoming bored and irritaed. So i gave up. Now my Super Smooth Steam Straightener is sitting in its box in my cupboard and i don't suppose it will be used at all. Now im planning to buy the babyliss steam straightener, but its annoyed me that i shoudl ahev to buy another one, when ive got one that SHOULD work just as well. I acnt take it back as i have used it, and its no use to me.

My friend also had her eye on the same straightener as me, and when i got mine i warned her not to buy the same one, but it was too late, because her parents had got it her for christmas too!
