KMS California HairPlay Clay Creme
by MEL0611
If you have read any of my previous reviews then I apologise if you have read any of this information before but let me tell you about my hair! It sits just below my shoulders, has a semi permanent colour on it and is really really thick! I have used so many different hair care products on it in the past I have given up trying to count ... them all up! My hair can be worn in a straight look, this is with the help of GHD's or I can wear it a little bit messier and have it curly, this is where I tend to use a number of styling products. I don't have to have such concentrated heat on my hair when I am wearing it curly but the products are essential. The hair care product that I am reviewing today is my KMS California Hair Play Clay Crème. It is an American based product and it is one that I tried off a friend, I think she brought it via the internet and since then I have been using my own pot of crème to style the ends of my hair when it is worn in a curly fashion. Here are my thoughts on it.
This is a brand that I had not ever heard of before. I know that it is not something that you can buy on the shelves of the high street shops or even in local hairdressers but it is quite easily found on the internet. Amazon stock this product and you will pay around the £7.50 mark for it. The hair care product is one that I think is reasonably priced compared to other styling items out in the market. If you do not buy this from Amazon, there are a number of other hair care stockists such as HQ Hair and Beauty Zone that do, and all for around the same price tag.
The hair clay arrives in a bright lime green pot which has a black lid. There is the KMS California name on the pot as well as the fact that this is a clay. There is clear directions for use listed on this as well as a breakdown on the ingredients that have been used and the benefits of using this product. We are told that this will help in reconstructing the style of your hair, it will give a flexible hold and it will also have a matte finish to hair so you are not left with greasy looking locks! The idea behind me needing this is that when I wear my hair curly, the ends of my hair go frizzy so I need small amounts of this on the ends to keep the curls in place.
You just need to remove the lid to begin using, you only need the smallest amount of clay, especially me as I section my hair off. The clay even though it had the name clay is really easy to handle, whilst it is stiff, you can scoop it out of the pot and work it in your hands. It has a smooth texture and there is a slight perfumed scent to it, nothing t5o much though and I have found that the scent soon disappeared so I could still smell my conditioner in my hair.
After using this the big test is to see if it worked. Application of the clay was really easy so I was hopeful that the same qualities would last, and they did! The best thing for me is that this isn't greasy, it just kept my ends neater I guess as opposed to seeing them frizz up throughout the day. The clay could be used in shorter hair to achieve a specific look but this is also excellent in longer hair as I have found What is also good is that when it comes to washing this out, it doesn't leave any residue on your hair so there is no horrid build up.
In summary, I am more than happy to recommend this product.
5 out of 5 from me on this one

Vo5 Heat Defence Smoothing Creme
by cirsty
Hair products are my thing. I've got dozens of bottles, lotions and potions all purchased with the fantasy of whatever is contained in these pretty bottles and tubes will turn my frazzled locks into something wonderful. Now, VO5 don't usually make an appearance on my shelf unless they are on sale or I take a slight turn in optimism, as I ... find their products very 'watery' and the conditioners just don't hit the spot when it comes to nourishing my hair. I'm a red head and my hair is very thick and at times unmanageable, I rely on my straighteners and sometimes need copious amounts of serum to bandage my damaged hair. When VO5 came out with their fairly new range (and advertised very cleverly using very pretty models with gorgeous hair on tv) I decided to give them another chance. Had I written them off too quickly?
I bought this product at my local Superdrug for £3.89, very cheap for a heat defense product as they usually are priced at £5 and above. The bottle is very eye catching (probably the main reason why I bought it in the first place) and also very easy to use! It's bright pink colouring and sparkly illusion makes it slot in perfectly with all my other girly products, and when it looks so girly I can be assured that my boyfriend won't touch it (he likes to use my hair products but is 'too macho' to go near anything pink!) The bottle is easy to squeeze the product out of and has a convenient flip cap to avoid mess and increase the simplicity of the product and makes it even easier to use.
The consistency feels quite thin, and just squeezing the first application into my hand made me doubt the effectiveness it was going to have on my wild hair. The product is apparently to be used on towel dried hair then blow dried into place, but I'm very skeptical of 'heat defense' products and never use them before I straighten my hair. Hair Product + Dry Hair + Straighteners = Really badly damaged hair. Anyway, I planned on using this AFTER I styled my hair to try and let my hair absorb the product after it had taken a battering by my blow dryer and straighteners, and as this is my hair routine I need a product that absorbs into the hair and doesn't go all sticky, gooey or makes my hair matted.
Ok so after observing that the product felt quite thin, I divided my hair into 2 sections and put each section over my shoulders and worked a pea sized blob of the product into each section of the hair, starting from the middle of my hair down to the ends and really closing my palms together at the ends of my hair to ensure that the product would really sink in with the heat from my hands. The product does smell quite nice and didn't bounce off the smell from my shampoo which I liked, it just has a subtle fresh scent. Normally when I do this I have to wait a few minutes to wait until the product sinks in and I gave it a few minutes.
Afterwards, my hair felt heavy as if the product just hadn't absorbed into my hair making it feel sticky and have a weird texture like I'd worked gel through my hair. At first I thought that it was just taking a while longer to work but by the end of the day my hair felt greasy and really weighed down by such a small amount of product.
In conclusion, I don't think that cremes are suited for my hair type, and as I refuse to use a product before I use my straighteners in order to prevent further damage I feel that this product is not suited for me either. It's reasonably priced, but as far as my experience goes I feel that I paid too much for something that just didn't work for me at all! Read the complete review |

Vo5 Heat Defence Smoothing Creme
by suziedre
DISCLAIMER: Regarding the title - I can only apologise for the dreadful pun.
I have naturally wavy hair which can get a bit frazzled and frizzy if I don't apply products to it to help tame it. Generally I buy products from hairdresser ranges such as John Freida or Charles Worthington; however when I recently ran out of my ... usual hair serum type product, I just grabbed whatever I saw in the supermarket that looked like it might suit my hair.
PACKAGING
This Vo5 Heat Defence Smoothing Creme 100ml comes in a pink plastic tube. It stands on its end and has a flip-top lid, which makes the product easy to squeeze out. I still have over half a tube left but once it starts to run out, this will be very easy to cut open with scissors so I can get every remaining bit of creme out.
This promises a super sleek look and is meant to have 'heat defence' which will protect your hair against heated appliances.
USAGE
You apply this to your hair when it is damp - I use this after I have given it a good towel-dry. You smooth it through your hair. VO5 advise that this should not be applied to the roots - how much of your hair you wish to apply this to is up to you as it depends on personal need. I find that this works best for me if I apply it to my ends and just a few inches above that. I think any more of my hair and it would leave my hair too flat.
You really only need to use a miniscule amount of this, unless your hair is seriously out of control. I tend to use a blob around half the size of a pea. Any more and I found that my hair tended to feel flat and a bit heavy, like it was weighed down against my head with product. I have not had this problem any time I have used a smaller amount.
This combs through very easily and once applied and combed through, you can blow dry and/or straighten as necessary.
EFFECTS
I do think that this leaves my hair frizz-free, as if it puts a protective coat around each strand of hair. My hair does feel less frizzy to the touch once it's styled after I use this - smoother and sleeker. My hair doesn't become any less smooth throughout the day, and overall I do find that this has helped tame my unruly hair.
I don't think the ends of my hair look as frazzled since I started using this. How effective the 'heat defence' is I can't say for sure, but as I use hairdryers and straighteners daily, I will take what I can get.
PRICE
This costs £3.49 for a 100ml tube. I did grimace when paying this, I must admit, but this will last me for several months so it's cost effective, and I don't mind paying this for a product that a) works and b) I won't have to fork out for that often.
WOULD I BUY THIS AGAIN?
I do like to try different anti-frizz products in my endless search for a miracle hair product that takes the frizz away easily, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again if there were no cheaper alternatives. Read the complete review |
