Tangle Teezer
by Kirsty_89
DESCRIPTION
The tangle teezer is a hairbrush invention created by a hairdresser who appeared on the BBC's Dragon's Den I believe. The product claims to "detangle and smooth your hair into superb condition" It also claims to reduce damage to your hair. When I first saw the tangle teezer on Dragon's Den I was ... immediately interested but I think they turned the idea down and so I was disappointed that I would be unable to purchase the product, eventually though the tangle teezer started appearing in shops like Boots in a variety of colours. The price tag of nearly £11 did put me off for a while though and I ended up purchasing the tangle teezer on eBay at the end of last year.
PACKAGING
The tangle teezer comes in a see through plastic case with the name of the product on the front and the basic details on the back. The product itself is available is several colours and patterns but I chose mine in the "purple glitter" design. The shape of the brush is moulded so that it fits into your hand perfectly and on the back of the brush the words "tangle teezer" are printed on. The bristles of the brush are very, very flexible and are of varying sizes, this is part of the reason why the brush detangles hair so easily. The brush is also a concave shape meaning it hugs your scalp when brushing near the roots.
PRICE
At the moment you can purchase the tangle teezer for £10.99 at Boots but you can also buy the product on eBay or Amazon.
PERFORMANCE
From the first sight and feel of the tangle teezer you are immediately sceptical. If like me you have always had long hair and often struggle when hair is wet or damp, worrying that you will damage the hair and so having to wait ages before you can brush or style until it's dry enough then you will realise the need to find a solution. The tangle teezer appears flimsy and your first thought is that it just won't work but from first contact with the hair it is clear it is effortless. The teezer brushes easily through wet or dry hair removing tangles and smoothing down the hair. It is also a god send if you suffer from split ends because the product prevents damage to hair. Brushing your hair at the tips to start with and then nearer the scalp with this product on a regular basis means eventually you will have healthier hair.
OVERALL
Overall a very good product. I use it everyday now and my hair is definitely in better condition. The only downside possibly would be the price but you can often find a bargain and if it is still too pricey they have recently released a compact design that is less expensive. The Bodyshop White Headband
by northernlovely
Sometimes, when I'm working from home, having a clean-a-thon or ill, I like to tie my hair up and stick a big wide hairband in it, to keep it all out of the way. And when I was packing my bag for hospital (when I was pregnant), I made sure to include a headband, as having good hair (or even the chance to have good hair) would surely be ... way down the list having just had a baby!
So, I decided on the The Body Shop White Headband which I picked up in store for £2.50. I went for white, as my dressing gown is pale green (hey, who says you can't make at least a little effort to co-ordinate in hospital!?). I also thought that it might be a bit more of a forgiving colour if I was looking a bit pale (the other option was black).
You can also buy the The Body Shop White Headband on their website however it's hardly worth it as a postage and packaging charge applies which is actually more than the item. It might be a good thing to add on to another order however.
The The Body Shop White Headband is a wide, cotton white headband with a stitched seam on the inside and to join it into a hoop. It feels nice, and of a good quality. It sits in the hair comfortably without slipping off, and looks well against tied up hair (either a ponytail or a bun) or to keep back hair that is down and loose. It keeps back the stragglers you can get around your hairline and it leaves your face free and clear to wash it. Should you be using this at home for beauty reasons it's a good way of keeping your hair back for face masks and plucking your eyebrows or so on. Basically, this is a really versatile headband whether for lazy use or pampering.
When I was in hospital the band was great to keep my hair off my sweaty brow and help me feel a bit more neat and tidy (as much as you can do in labour). After I'd had my little bundle of joy I was ordered to have a shower in antibacterial solution (mmm!) which made my hair as shiny and soft as a bale of straw on a hot Summer's day... my Mum dragged a hairbrush through it and we popped the hair band on it and I managed again to feel a bit presentable, despite feeling rather exhausted (there were cameras about after all!)
After I got home, we popped the The Body Shop White Headband in the washing machine at 30 degrees with a white wash and it came out good as new and dried well, too. It's since been used and washed and generally it's as good as the day I bought it 2 years ago, so for £2.50 it's been a brilliant buy (it's also been on holiday abroad twice with me!)
So, overall, I highly recommend The Body Shop White Headband, it's a very versatile and useful and for the price it is a bargain as it's so well made and washable too. It helps me feel human on can't-be-bothered hair days (and when you have a child they're more common than they were before!) Read the complete review |

Avon Pop Up Brush
by northernlovely
**What is it?**
I think everyone has seen a pop up hairbrush though they seemed to be more popular in the 80s when I was growing up (well, to me, anyway). They're folding travel hairbrushes usually equipped with mirrors, great for handbags and holidays.
**Price and Availability**
The Avon Pop Up Brush is ... available exclusively from Avon, either via your local representative (we have a lady at work who gives out the catalogues and then brings the things into work, very handy!) or via the Avon website (a P&P charge usually applies to online purchases however).
I paid £3.95 for the Avon Pop Up Brush, possibly a bit more than you'd pay elsewhere as I've seen these in chemists around £2.99 and occasionally even in the pound shop but this one is a special edition, white with pink flowers so I was happy to pay that bit extra. I still think it's a fair price for a handy product.
**Looks & How to Use**
The Avon Pop Up Brush is folded in two down the middle, half the brush head and half the handle. Mine is pink with white blossom over it, very attractive, but they are available in plain colours too. The handle has a long thin mirror on it - very handy for doing your hair on the go and for make-up too.
The head of the brush is black and is folded inwards, to use you open out the brush handle and head, then with your finger push the bristles out (like you'd push an orange inside out to eat it) to splay them out so you can brush your hair. Then, when you want to put it away you push the bristles back in on themselves and fold it up.
It looks very cute, neat and takes up hardly any space. Another excellent benefit of it closing up is that it can't snag on other things in your bag or get full of fluff and sweet wrappers (talking of my own rather messy at times bag, this is).
**In Use**
I find the Avon Pop Up Brush is great for brushing on the go, and the curved profile of the popped out head means it's quite effective for blow drying when you're in a hotel for example. Certainly I've survived a week abroad with this brush and this brush alone and not really felt like I'm missing out not having my large vented brush which is not suitable for travel.
I generally keep it in my handbag and there's been many times when it's been windy and I've needed to give it a quick brush in the office or stick it into an up-do, I also use it to neaten up my daughter's wild curls when we are out and about, so it's certainly come in handy over and over again.
The mirror is decent and though thin does allow you to put on eye make up and lipstick and so on, good for quick touch ups but obviously not something I'd use as a first choice over a larger mirror.
**Overall**
I do recommend the Avon Pop Up Brush, it's easy to get hold of and it's very nice looking, and I've used it countless times so it represents great value for money. It's well made, and it will last, so yes, I'd recommend it 100% as a great handbag, or travel, or both brush for all. Five out of five from me, I think I'll buy some more as stocking fillers this year :) Read the complete review |
