Avon Paddle Brush
by MikeBorry
~*~*~ Avon Paddle Brush ~*~*~
A few years back when I was in college doing a hairdressing & beauty course I bought a fantastic paddle brush which I loved. It made blow drying my hair easier and just generally left my hair looking good, however I lost it when I moved and I was/am gutted! When I saw these paddle brushes on ... offer in Avon a while back I bought one, I have to be honest and say that I wasn't thinking it would be as good as my old brush but it was better than using the brushes I have.
~ The Brush ~
This brush usually retails at £7.50 but I think I bought it for around the £3 mark. It is a nice brush. I was pretty impressed when I got it as it is a nice big brush which is what I was after.
My brush is a shiny pink colour, it has the black cushioned part into which the plastic bristles sit, on the end of each bristle is a pink plastic bobble which makes it comfortable to use.
Despite the large apperance of the brush it is actually easy and comfortable to hold and to use.
I mainly use this brush when I blow dry my hair before straightening as it helps get my hair pretty straight which means less time with the hot irons on my hair which is a must at the moment.
My hair has been over processed with bleach and colourants to get it back blonde so the less time I can spend using hair straighteners the better, using this brush whilst dryer keeps my hair relatively straight so in turn making it easier and simpler to straighten.
The handle of the brush is nice and strong and also a nice shape to hold. The size of the brush head makes it a quick and easy hair brushing brush!
Whilst my hair is quite fine and easy to manage my cousin has thick hair which is, at times rather wild looking. She often comes to me to sort her hair out and when she saw how easy this brush got through her hair with no pain she bought one pretty soon after.
My brush has had lots of use and is still in good condition, this isn't the sort of brush you can pop into your bag due to the size so it doesn't really get knocked about, but even without doing this I have noticed that some of the pink has chipped off the brush handle leaving it look a little tatty, however this doesn't make any difference to the way it works.

Boots Essentials Blonde Blending Hair Grips
by HelenW
For years and years, I've always had numerous blonde hair grips floating around everywhere! In my handbag, coat pockets, dressing table, mantelpiece (frequently, much to mum's dismay!) and the bathroom shelf (ditto!). When I was at school, I always had them around because I did dance and used to tie my hair back and grips help avoid the ... flyaways that tend to happen at the sides, without having to cover your hair in hairspray! This carried on when I started working at 17, as I went into catering and naturally, had to keep my hair contained to a hat. A hair grip came in useful for keeping my fringe contained and no flyaways from straying out of my hairdo!
Even after leaving catering and entering the world of office work, when I finished university, I still have them around everywhere! Now that I have had my hair layered, I find it poses difficulties when swimming, which I do quite frequently! My fringe and my shortest layers come straight out of a plait as soon as it's done! I hair grip secures my fringe quite securely so that I can swim, and another one near my plait stops the layers from escaping too much! Also, a major use of these hair clips are for fringe taming at night! I prefer to wash my hair in the evening rather than the morning (I'd rather have the extra 15 minutes of sleep to be honest); however, I don't like to straighten my hair too often. The result of this means that I can go to bed with my hair looking reasonable after a hair wash and blow dry, and wake up to a quiff in the morning! Lord only knows what my fringe decided to do in the night! Solution = a hair grip or two to contain my fringe and to leave me quiff free in the morning and not needing to straighten my hair!
These grips come exactly as the photo above illustrates. They are slid onto a a think piece of plastic material and are easy to slide on and off the packet. The good thing about these, is that when they are in place, they stay put. They don't slide around, which is really useful.
This is a product I purchase quite often! Although there are plenty in a packet, when I say I lose them them frequently, I'm not exaggerating! I take them out, put them down and they're never seen again! I'm sure my bathroom has a hair-grip-eating monster lurking! Plus I think a fair few of them go up the hoover (accidentally of course!) :-s ooopsie.
I tend to purchase my hair grips from Boots (2 reasons: Advantage card points, and proximity to my work!). I think they are a great price, a packet will set you back a mere £1.50, which I think is very reasonable. Also, the blonde grips are a nice mid shade of blonde, and not too platinum which some can be. In a packet, you will get about 30 hair grips, which with my track record, I tend to lose in the space of about 2 months. Read the complete review |

Tangle Teezer
by madasacatter
I bought the tangle teaser brush and used it for approximately 6 months with hair extensions and also my natural hair. It really is useful for getting through the toughest of knots in the worst places.
I purchased it from my local salon at £11.49, which seemed very expensive for a hairbrush, but I can really see the benefit ... for tangle prone hair. On my hair extensions it was perfect and did not tug at the roots, it left my hair feeling very smooth and easy to manage in any style after brushing.
It was, however, a chore to go through the whole of my hair as brushing seemed to take much longer than with a conventional brush. The soft bristles don't aggrivate the scalp to get to difficult places, but the lack of a handle did mean I found it flew out of my hands many times!
Eventually, after my extensions were removed I did revert back to my traditional hair brush. There didn't seem to be much difference between the two on shorter hair.
I have recommended this product to friends for their children though, as this brush gets through tangles very well with no pain. Read the complete review |
