Palmers Coconut Oil Formula Moisture Gro Shining Hairdress
by cha97mw
I was swayed into buying this product after I read a review about it, and I thought to myself it might be a nice product to use. I suffer from quite a dry scalp, and when it is at its most sensitive I can find large dry scaly patches on my scalp.
The product is coconut oil based and has added vitamin E, and is made by ... Palmers, a company I have used for years for their cocoa butter body products, so I was expecting great things from this. This is apparently based upon a polynesian formula. Applied to the hair and scalp, it is meant to penetrate the hair folicle and promote hair growth leaving you with strong and healthy hair. I was thinking that my dry scalp would benefit from this targetted moisturisation.
When I purchased the product, I bought it from amazon and paid around £4-5 for a tub containing 150g of the product. When I first got this, I have to admit, I was a little shocked by how solid this product is. It is what I would categorise as a grease, and being very white in colour it reminds me of the tubs of cork grease I used to buy when I played the clarinet to keep the joints of the instrument in good condition. I loved the coconut scent that came from the product, but was a little put off by how thick it is. I think I was expecting something more akin to vaseline texture, ie, thick but a little easier to get some product onto your hands to apply.
This is so thick that to apply, I need to rub my fingertips over the surface of my pot. This then leaves a greasy looking sheen on my fingertips, and I rub my fingers through my hair, concentrating particulary at the roots and parting where my scalp seems driest.
When I first apply this, I always think it makes my hair look rather lank and greasy which is saying something for my hair type. My hair is very thick, curly, and coarse, and never looks greasy even if it is left for a week between washes, yet this leaves it looking flat and greasy. This is something I tend to apply on an evening as I would feel odd leaving the house looking like this. However, overnight, it does seem to absorb into my hair and not look too bad come the morning, but still not as clean looking as normal.
My hair does seem to be growing quite well at the moment. I died my hair a couple of months back, and there is a good inch and a half of noticeable roots where my grey is re-appearing. My hair has always grown fairly well to a certain length, so I don't think this is any quicker particularly. However I would say that my scalp is a little better than it has been. I am not finding it anywhere near as dry as it can get.
I think that this is the sort of product that is going to be a lot better on some hair types compared to others. If you have thin hair that gets greasy easily, then this will not be for you as it is so heavy. My hair is only just about able to cope with it, although I imagine some hair types really thrive with this sort of treatment.
I am a bit scared to use it that often as it is such a heavy product on my hair. My tub will probably last me a number of years if the current rate of usage is anything to go by. It has got a use by date after opening of 24 months, though I can't actually think why it would go off with clean hands if stored properly and not left in direct light.
I am not sure if I recommend this one or not. It has a gorgeous scent, and it is enriching to my hair and scalp when used really sparingly, but I am not sure how essential it is. I probably would not find myself repurchasing it. Read the complete review |

Palmer's Olive Oil Formula Spray Oil
by MEL0611
I have tried a number of different products on my hair. They are normally products that try and help tame the frizz in my hair but the product I have just been using is the Palmers Olive Oil conditioning Spray oil. I would normally stay away from products that have oil in them as they tend to leave my roots looking really greasy. The ... reason for me making this purchase though was that I was going on holiday and my hair really dries out in the sun and so I needed something that would put some moisture back into it. I use a serum anyway to tame the frizz but this was for use in the day as well as opposed to something I would put in after washing my hair. Here are my thoughts on the product.
The Palmers product is one that can be found in a number of places, usually for about the same price. I paid £4.29 for the oil and this was for the 150ml bottle. I got my bottle in the Superdrug store but it can be found in the Supermarkets as well as certain high street stores. These include Wilkinson's and Boots, so you can tell the product is not difficult to get hold of.
The product itself is in a clear plastic bottle so you can see the oil through it, also handy if you are running low. The bottle has a label on the front which has the Palmers logo on as well as the name of the product. We are told by Palmers that the oil will condition the hair and scalp as well as keeping braids soft and shiny. It is natural oil that will also help condition. Whilst I do not have braids, when out by the pool and my hair was damp, I would spray some of the oil in it then.
There is a pump with a plastic cap over it at the top of the bottle and it is here that the oil will be dispensed. It was really easy to use and came out with ease. The oil was not to greasy, I think that as it came out as a mist it didn't feel as messy either. The oil had a slight scent to it but nothing as strong as the Palmers cocoa body butters that I have used in the past. I guess the olive oil isn't going to be as highly scented.
The oil really did seem to make a difference in my hair. I was impressed that it came out as a mist and that I could actually see a difference in my hair. I f I had just left it in the sun, the ends would be far more brittle and the roots really dry but here was visibly a lot more moisture in my hair and I have to put it down to using this product. If like me, you have been wary of an oil best product, this one seems quite good!
In summary, I am happy to recommend this product, really glad I brought it and it will definitely be used when the sun comes out again!
5 out of 5 from me on this one
