John Frieda Frizz Ease 3 Day Straight Spray
by rhiax
I bought John Frieda's 3 day straight after hearing many positive reviews of the product and thought it would be ideal for my hair. I have slightly wavy but mainly frizzy hair with many flyaways. I do straighten my hair after washing as the fizz cannot seem to be tamed any other way. Due to very dry skin and painful scalp I wash my hair ... every 3 days and anymore is painful so I thought 3 day straight would be ideal cause that's about the time I go between washing.
The product comes in nice packaging and looks very attractive. The smell is actually really nice which I wasn't expecting too much. However, on use the product doesn't seem to do anything for my hair. By the third day I believe my hair looks exactly the same as when I do not use the product.
The back of the bottle suggests using 7-15 sprays which is nowhere near enough for my hair which is medium-long and thick. The bottle suggests increasing the amount for my type of hair but I don't feel I get coverage until I get to around 30 sprays so I have to use a lot of the product.
I am currently using up the bottle as I don't find it has any adverse effects other than not really working and I don't particularly want to through away something I've paid for.
Perhaps this product would work better for people with curly hair? It has crossed my mind that perhaps it is working but only to a certain extend so I can't really tell with my wavy hair.
Personally, I would not buy this product again as I feel it was a waste of money but I have heard positive reviews so I would probably suggest it if a curly haired friend was looking for a similar product. Read the complete review |

Boots Essentials Curling Cream
by busybeeme
I first came across this product on an American forum, where this product has reached cult status- people order crates of the stuff and have it shipped at extortionate rates over to the States. With such a following, and for the rather small price of 1.49, I decided that I had to try a pot of the stuff. My decision was accelerated ... because I'd just found out that my previously favourite product, MOP curling creme, had been discontinued, and I was in desperate search of a replacement. MOP normally sets me back about 11 pounds a tube, so for 1.49 I felt I really couldn't lose.
Boots Essentials Curl Creme is baby pink in colour, matching the rest of the Essentials range, and comes in a 250g clear plastic pot with a screw lid. It used to contain silicones, but they have taken these out, making the product much easier to wash out of your hair with each shampoo.
I need to use about a pound coin size on my hair, so a pot lasts me around 4 months, making it rather fantastic value for money. I put the creme on wet but not dripping hair, comb it lightly through, and either let it dry naturally or diffuse it. I think that whether or not you like this product depends on the kind of hair you have- if you have essentially straight hair, and are trying to use this product to make it curly, I don't think this product will work for you. If, however, you have thick or abundant curls, and want to lose some frizz and add definition, as is the case with my hair, then I think you will be impressed. I found that this product performed equally as well as Tigi or MOP, and an advantage of this product is that it can be used wet or dry, so if I need a bit more definition when I've finished diffusing, I simply scrunch a little bit more in.
One drawback of this product is that because of the high alcohol content, it is slightly drying. I combat this by using an intensive conditioner, and having a break from the product every few days, and then I've found that my hair is fine with it. I've also mixed it with a silicone free serum to add a bit more definition.
Overall I would say give this product a go- in the worst case you lose 1.49 and in the best you've got a bargain product that still performs as well as the A-listers. Read the complete review |

Alberto VO5 Extreme Texturising Gum
by milmol7
The word "gum" was a bit off-putting to me, to be honest, but in truth it is the best word to describe the texture of this product. I took the lid off in the store because I need to smell any hair products before I buy them, I can't imagine anything worse than having bad smelling hair following you round all day! This has a ... pleasing smell (to me), somehow slightly fruity, a hint of something sweet. Nothing more than a hint, though, nice and subtle and inoffensive.
Using the gum, the information tells you that a tiny amount goes a long way. This is certainly true. I only use it to finish off my hair, defining strands in my fringe and a little bit tidying up any flyaway hair on top. I just take about a finger-end size blob and rub it between across my fingertips before applying it where I want to. The instructions advise you to use it by rubbing it between your fingers and 'stretching' the gum into strands - this is something I have seen on various products over the years, but its a technique I have never (a) understood or (b) managed! I have once tried it - I thought it probably needed a bit more than I was used to - I tried it with a blob about the size of a 5p piece, tried to stretch it and then put into my hair but the result was a disastrous matting effect. I had to rewash my hair and I didn't repeat the experiment! On a few occasions I have used it to try to style my full head of hair rather than just the fringe, when I was going out, but I figured that the best way to do this was lots of tiny amounts, a small amount of hair at a time - so I imagine it makes it quite time consuming if you were to be doing that every day.
The feel of the product once its in your hair is much better than others I've used in the past - there is no stickiness and it doesnt make your hair feel rough or hard. My hair feels as soft as it would without it, although it's still doing it's job. This is the best feature of the product for me, but I'm conscious that I do only use a minimal amount for my needs. Once applied properly, the other good thing about this gum is that you wouldn't know there was any product on your hair. It's matt so it doesn't have a gloss or wet look to it, it seems to be just 'there', silently and inconspicuously doing its job. For me that's a good thing, but if you're looking for a shine then this isn't the product you need.
The information on the tin also says you can restyle once you have applied it - this is not something I've had cause to try and imagine it refers to someone using the product to style their entire head of hair, rather than just 'finishing touches' as I use it for. I bought the 35ml tin of this gum, specifically for its small size for taking on holiday. It comes in a tin as opposed to the more common plastic tub, and has a stylish look to it. The 35ml tin is 2 inch diameter and about an inch high, ideal for space-saving when packing. The option of this smaller tin is also an advantage if you use it in small quantities, like I do - a larger tin would probably be gone off and unusable before I had used it all. I have had this tin almost 12 months and there is still about a quarter of it left.
When it's empty, if the product is still around I will have no hesitation in buying again, it suits my needs perfectly. Read the complete review |
