Twisted Sista Different Strokes Serum
by savvyshopper6476 Oh dear lord the amount of money I have spent over the years trying to tame my naturally curly and some what frizzy hair I would have been better off putting my pennies to better use and getting my hair chemically straightened! I had never seen this hair serum before in the supermarket or other high street stores so I was not familiar ... with the brand but I chanced upon it in my local 99p store and thought it was worth a go. The Serum: The serum (made by Urban Therapy, London) comes in a small 1.1oz plastic jar that claims to "Instantly eliminate frizz, seal and repair split ends" as well as having a shine enhancer. The actual contents is like a transparent oil and it feels quite greasy. You apply the serum to damp/towel dried hair smoothing over the entire length of the hair from just below the roots through to the ends, comb through and style as normal. My Experience: I used quite a small amount on my first application (about the size of a 5pence piece) and it was still too much for my mid length hair. I decided to blow dry anyway but my hair was so sticky that I had to wash it out and start again! (you live and learn). Next time I used just a couple of drops and rubbed into my hands before applying and once blow dried was much better. I used straightening irons (I always do) which was a nightmare because my hair took much longer to straighten and when finished looked a little lank and lifeless, initially though there was no frizz. For the first few hours after finishing my hair it would look quite straight and the serum did seem to weigh it down slightly but then during the day it appeared to look dull and lifeless and a bit greasy, although it never actually felt greasy. It did keep my frizz at bay for a short amount of time but during damp weather or humid conditions my hair was still as frizzy as it would have been if I had not used the product and I never noticed my hair looking any shinier or glossier after using either. I also found it took quite a while to fully wash out of my hair. The Verdict: Yes my hair was less frizzy but it did not eradicate the frizz only lessen it. My hair was no more shiny looking than if I had not used it and I did not like the greasy look that my hair took on a few hours after styling so it is not a product that I would bother to use again. I think that if you have reasonably straight hair to begin with or only mild frizz this could work for your hair but if your hair is thick and prone to a lot of frizz then this probably wont tame it completely. Urban Therapy: Urban Therapy also have other products in their range which include shampoo, conditioner, curl activator and relaxing cream. Read the complete review |

Twisted Sista Different Strokes Serum
by clara29 I have been straightening my naturally curly mop for about 20 years now during which time I have tried out A LOT of products, seriously the hair products aisle in Boots ain't got nothing on me!! However, the only item that has stayed for the duration is John Frieda Frizz Ease serum. Although it lasts a while, it costs just ... under £6.00 and occasionally when I am particularly skint, I do try a cheaper option. Browsing the aisles in my local Quality Save store, I spotted Twisted Sista Different Strokes serum this for a bargain price of 99p and figured I had nothing to lose (apart from 99p) by giving it a go. Twisted Sista is a range of hair products by a company called Urban Therapy, which is a day spa based in London. They pitch their brand as the first ever to span the diverse mix of ethnic markets, taking a multicultural approach, which I guess means that their hair products are suitable for all hair types including tough to tame curls (ie: afro). The packaging is colourful and fun rather than sleek and sophisticated with cartoon drawings of funky looking chicks on the front. The serum comes in a 1.01 oz bottle with a pump dispenser. I applied it as I always do, in a 20p sized amount to freshly washed hair, then set about drying. The first thing I noticed was the dispenser is easy to control meaning you don't get a big splodge when you only need a little. Secondly is the smell which in my opinion is the best thing about this serum. John Frieda is fragrance free, but this stuff smells like tropical fruits - yum! Upon applying it, I could already tell my hair felt quite heavy (John Frieda is lightweight and 'barely there'). As I started to blow-dry, I could tell my hair felt thicker than usual and more weighed down which is not a plus for me I'm afraid. My hair might be curly but its not massively thick so I like it to feel weightless. On the plus side, the following morning after a windy walk to work, my hair didn't succumb to frizz, so it did its job in that respect. However this stuff is not suitable for all hair types as it claims. I would say it would suit those with thick, hard to tame hair types, but not those with fine - medium hair. I can also imagine that it would make those with greasy hair even worse. In summary, I would recommend that if you want a weightless feel to your locks then this isn't the stuff for you but perhaps it would be more successful to those with thicker hair more prone to frizz. Plus for 99p it's cheap enough to give it a whirl. For me though, its back to the Frizz Ease :) Thanks for reading Read the complete review |

Twisted Sista Different Strokes Serum
by rji0907 I recently brought a bottle of Twisted Sista Different Strokes Serum as although I have quite straight and manageable hair, I find the ends get frizzy rather easily, especially in changing weather conditions as we are experiencing at the moment heading into winter. This bit of frizz can make styling a bit more difficult and I wanted to ... find a product which would combat this small problem and give me sleek looking locks for the approaching party season. This serum is for use on either straight or curly hair and is said to eliminate frizz. The serum comes in a pump action bottle with plastic top. The first thing I noticed when I pumped some into my hand was the greasiness of it. It put me off immediately and I really wasn't impressed. It took a good couple of washes to wash the greasiness off my hands and didn't give me much confidence in the product. The second thing I noticed was the smell of the product and again I wasn't too impressed. It doesn't smell of any particular scent or fragrance, it can only really be described as a sweet smell, but for me it really wasn't that nice. By this time I was wondering what the hell I had brought and I hadn't even applied it to my hair yet! You generally apply this product to wet hair, but you can apply a small amount to dry hair to add a bit of instant shine apparently. The results weren't as bad as I expected to be, but they weren't exactly fantastic either. My hair did have an added softness to it after using this product, and it did make blow drying my hair into a style that bit easier. The ends did look less frizzy too, but not quite to the extent I would have liked. The serum is very gel like. It is a clear liquid and quite thin in consistency. It could do with being a bit thicker in my opinion to make it a bit less messy and prevent wasteage. I did try adding a very small amount to dry hair on a night out to get that extra bit of shine, but I wouldn't do it again. It made my hair look a bit greasy so I will stick to just adding a bit to wet hair instead. I first picked this product over other on the shelves for price reasons. At my local Bodycare store I picked this up for just 99p, so thought I was getting a bit of a bargain. Generally from other stores you will pay between £1.99 - £2.99. Overall I wasn't overly impressed with this product. It was greasy to the touch and smelt bad. The smell however didn't seem to stay on my hair which made me feel a bit better. As said, it did the job stated to a certain degree and I did have less frizz and more manageable locks, but I would have expected better results. However for the price of just 99p per bottle then I suppose it was never going to be an amazing product. For me, I would prefer to pay a bit extra for a better quality product in future. It wasn't a bad product and was actually a bit better than expected after my initial reservations. It wasn't great and I probably wouldn't buy this again unless the pennies were really tight. A cheap and cheerful product, but didn't overly impress me unfortunately. Read the complete review |
