Advantages: Smooth&silky hair, natural, vegan, botanical, aromatherapy. smells divine!
Disadvantages: Takes about 3 washes for the detox period to be over,then your hair will be glorious!
A'Kin is another brand of shampoo I have been testing that is made from natural ingrediants and is not tested on animals. This is my joint favourite with Burt's Bees shampoo.
One of my favourite thing about this shampoo is that it does not use any harmful chemicals, smells gorgeous and after continued use your hair is amazing. I don't think I have ever received so many compliments on the softness and shinyness of my hair!
The ingredients (from mother nature's cupboard) are as follows;
Aqua (purified Australian water), sodium lauroyl sarcosinate (from palm), cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine (from coconut),disodium cocoamphodiacate (from coconut also),lauryl glucoside (from coconut, palm and glucose),sodium lauryl sulfoacetate (from palm),glycerin (botanical source), sorbitol (from GMO free maize), glyceryl laurate (botanical source),sodium citrate (botanical source),citric acid (botanical source), sodium gluconate (from GMO free corn),sodium cocoyl glutamate (from cocount and cane sugar), rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary), leaf oil, sodium hydroxymethlglycinate, lavendula angustifolia (lavendar) oil (certified organic), cedrus atlantica (cedarwood) bark oil, elettaria cardamomum seed oil, syzygium aromaticum (clove) flower oil, linalool. BP 2007 standard.
Phew! Well that's the information for what's in it, now why you might consider using it above your average brand. This product is 100% Vegan, natural, botanical aromatherapy and are not tested on animals and there isn't many products on the market that you can say that about now days.
A'kin is not a product that I think you can get in shops but it is something that I have bought from a website called My Pure. You can find them in a google search and for this item you will pay around £6.50 for a 225ml bottle. This does sound like a lot of money and as I mentioned in my Burt's Bees shampoo review, thats not as much as some chemical (hair stripping) hairdresser shampoo's will cost you. Having a quick look through the supermarkets I have noticed that more and more of the popular brands are putting their prices up and in light of that, I think this product is a bargain. I have long waist length typically thick mediterranean hair and this shampoo lasts me around a two months washing twice a week.
When I first used this shampoo it made my hair feel really rough and ratty which nearly put me off using it but after persisting with it for about three or so washes, my hair started to feel great. I notice it gets greasy less often so if this is a problem that you suffer with then I would recommend this shampoo. My hair stays naturally shiny and smooth without me needing to use my GHD's (which I have in fact put away since buying this shampoo). I seldom wore my hair with its natural wave because it tended to frizz (hence the GHD's) but since using this shampoo I find that my hair is silky and smooth in its curls without the tendancy to frizz. I have also noticed a reduction on the amount of hair in the plug hole and on my brush, which is amazing because it was in such terrible condition from all the straightening.
The smell is totally enchanting, so much so that my husband keeps putting his face in my hair to smell! The range works for baby's, teens and men also. I would definitely recommend this as the 'natural' choice in hair care and will never go back to the pretend natural 'herbel essence' style crap that I used to strip my hair with. Forget what they say in the adverts, if you want naturally gorgeous hair then try a natural brand like this!
Summary: It's the 'natural' way forward!

- 24/07/08 mm I doubt Holland and Barrett have all those ingredients to make my own batch. |

- 21/07/08 Nice review but oh, that ingredients list - it really breaks up the flow of your review. If I were you, I'd delete it altogether, but if you insist on having it in your review, it should go at the bottom as a PS. |
