~~~~~~ Alberto Balsam Juicy Green Apple Conditioner ~~~~~~
This is the shampoo and conditioner range I buy the most often, as I just can't resist the fruity scents. Or indeed the price. When I bought this one, they were on offer in Morrisons at 4 for £3.. They are usually around £1 each in any shops but often can be found in the supermarkets on a 3 for 2 offer or similar. I think I've used the entire range by now, and though some are better than others I do like them all - what some may lack in use or performance, they make up for in deliciousness!
~~~ First impressions ~~~
The conditioner comes in an opaque 400ml plastic bottle, with a black flip up cap. When you open this, you reveal the dispensing hole, which is actually quite wide; by eye I'd say it's almost 1cm. These holes are usually smaller. The bottle is quite plain, with the product name and info on it and a small banner showing part of a very juicy looking apple. I think the packaging is appealing, and though the bottle itself doesn't particularly stand out, the fact that the colour of the product inside shows through makes it very noticeable on the shelf - each variety is of course a different colour and when they're all lined up it looks very nice!
The bottle states this apple variety is to "get fresh", for normal/greasy hair. Now, my hair is typically dry and I usually use shampoos and conditioners specifically for this type, but I have found any of the Alberto Balsam products to be fine enough, and I often buy varieties for different hair types just for the scent.
The claims for this conditioner are simple - to protect, detangle, improve manageability and strengthen. It contains pro-vitamin B5 for this purpose, which can actually be found in a lot of more expensive conditioners. It contains apple fruit extract (obviously), but also contains grape seed extract and panthenol.
The conditioner itself is a pale green and when you open the lid you really do get a strong burst of fresh apple. It truly smells good enough to eat! The conditioner is quite creamy but runny, and I find using it is not the easiest due to this.
~~~ Using & results ~~~
I apply this shampoo to my hair from my ears down to the ends. I need to apply just a little at a time as like I mentioned it is quite runny and if I dispense the entire amount I am going to need in one go, then I have trouble keeping it on my hand! So I squeeze out a little, rub it between my hands to stop it running/dripping and spread it through my hair, repeating until all the hair I desire is coated in the conditioner. It does spread through my hair relatively easily, although due to the thinner consistency I do use a bit more of this one than I do others in the range.
All throughout using it, I can smell the delicious apple fragrance, and it is really nice! I leave it on my hair while I rinse my body, wash my face and rinse down the shower, then I rinse it out. It rinses out really easily, only taking a couple of minutes until the water runs clear from my hair. Once rinsed out, my hair feels smooth and doesn't 'squeak' so I feel happy that this has coated my hair nicely. When I comb though it there are no tangles to speak of and the comb glides through my hair.
This does leave my hair feeling really fresh and soft, although it doesn't do much for my curls. Often, my hair is a little frizzy and undefined as it dries, though by the time it dries completely it does look better. This isn't a conditioner I would choose to use if I was going somewhere and wearing my hair loose - it leaves my hair looking bouncy and smelling lovely but it is not tailored for my hair type and this is evident. Despite this though, my hair does feel good so it does do its job and it is one I have repurchased and will continue to use for a change.
~~~ Recommend? ~~~
I certainly would. It's not perfect for my own hair but it does its job and it does fulfill the promises it makes. My hair is left feeling fresh and soft, looking shiny and smelling fruity. You can't argue with the price tag of this range either, they really are bargainous! I love fruity scents so these will always be a winner for me. I appreciate the fact they are almost always on offer as well, as I will use 2 bottles of conditioner to every bottle of shampoo. All in all I love this range and this yummy apple conditioner is almost as lovely as the rest. It loses a star for being runny though, as I think this would irritate no matter what hair type you have!
Summary: A gorgeous smelling conditioner
