Advantages: smells lovely, gets hair clean and soft, cheap

Disadvantages: left my hair looking dull and lacking shine

I love my bath products and like to pay a little extra for skincare too, but when it comes to my hair, although now and again I will splash out on nice products, I'm happy enough to use the cheaper brands. When I decided to cut back my spending on beauty products, one of the first areas I cut back on was shampoo and conditioner. I have used a few of the Alberto Balsam products in the past and found them to be OK, and after having success with the strawberries and cream shampoo I decided to try the juicy green apple version.

The shampoo comes in a frosted plastic bottle with a black lid, and although it's not the most glamorous of packaging, it's not too bad for a budget product. Also at 400mls the bottle is quite large so you're getting a good amount for your money.

The shampoo is suitable for normal/greasy hair. My hair tends to be greasy at the roots and dry at the ends, so whether or not this was particularly suitable for me or not, I don't know.

The shampoo is green in colour and has a gorgeous apple fragrance. It's like the sweet juicy smell you get when you bite into a granny smith. It's quite a strong smell, so probably one to avoid if you're not keen on the smell of apples!

The shampoo lathers up well with only a very small amount needed per use. Sometimes I find I need to wash my hair twice in order for it to feel clean, however that wasn't the case here and I've always found one wash to be sufficient despite the fact I often use a lot of products in my hair.

After washing this leaves my hair clean and the apple smell lingers for quite a while. It doesn't dry my hair out at all, which I was pleased with, however I have found one problem which is that I think it leaves my hair looking dull. I use serum on my hair most days so this helps to add shine, but without it, my hair colour looks very dreary, which is quite a big negative point for me.

A 400ml bottle of this costs £1 from ASDA and you'll probably find most other places charge about the same.

Overall, this was a nice shampoo, and there's no doubt that it's a bargain but like I say it left my hair looking quite dull, so I think in the future I'll stick to the strawberries and cream version.

Summary: Not the best shampoo ever, but not the worst either
