Advantages: good scent

Disadvantages: could be thicker

The idea of washing your hairs in apples thrills me. I think apples have a wonderful scent, they capture the essence of summer, the dawn of spring and smell so fresh.

Alberto Balsam is a name I am familiar with, though I don't use their products as much as Frieda, Pantene or Tigi. It is always worth dipping into new shampoos though, just to explore how it reacts with the hair. I am forever chopping and changing and trying new ones, as the hair can build up a resistance to shampoos.

The bottle:

A rather large and obtrusive tall cylinder, but sits well on the bath. The lid is easy to open and the labelling is all quite sleek and minimal. You can recycle the bottle, which I usually do.

The texture:

Pours exceptionally well, though does come out a little liquid like for my liking. I tend to prefer shampoos which have more of a thicker creamier texture, that way you don't lose any through your fingertips. Anyway, it still was easy enough to work this through the hair, lathering up pretty well when combined with water. A ten pence piece blob should do the job.

There is a succulent smell to this shampoo which will conjure up images of bobbing for apples, the apple scent is just about right and it outweights any dodgy perfume or soapy smells which might be lingering. Imagine slicing into a fresh apple and sniffing it and you get the idea.

Results:

After a rinse through and a blotting with a towel (which protects the cuticles) I dried the hair with a blow dryer. I was relatively happy with the result. The hair had a clean feel, there was a sufficient amount of bounce to it and it felt cleansed. As the day went on, it did frizz up, but then my hair usually does anyway.

This shampoo is useful for people on a budget, as it can often be picked up for around £1-£2 a bottle.

Summary: not bad
